OT - Trade forum

I think that the reason there is a trade forum is so that those who are not interested won't have to suffer that kind of posts in here ;)

Hey Lee!
Well I can't play your game because I don't have a burner. But once upon a time I would have been hot on the trail of this idea cause I used to trade tapes a lot (thats even how I first discovered godly Opeth!), but now I just procrastinate too much. Feel free to send me anything though.

Anyway........thanks for sending the Cardiacs cd! I admit I only listened to it once so far but I dug parts of it. I didn't like the first track at all (too "punk"ish for my tastes but then the 2nd song started and I started to get into it even though it's a bit off what I usually like. Definitely a lot of different elements to it... and if I recall it sort of made me feel going mentally insane or that I would be one day. Insane but still catchy. Then I liked the 3rd track as well. As it played on I kinda dug even more but I wasn't sure if it was the music or if the insanity had set in prematurely  because I felt like I was about ready to join a punk rock cult and fuck the world!! :p It may have been the mood but its like a crazy cd, huh? I didn't listen to the last track or two because I was at work by then. By the time I was in the car again, I popped in Opeth and the rest is history. But I'll give that cd another go round soon! Thanks again!
:goggly:

Oh yeah!

I also recieved the Cardiacs CD recently, I wanted to thank you again, Lee, it's really cool. Thus far, "Fiery Gun Hand" is definately my favourite... it's solo is the musical equivalent of pure insanity, as is the part that follows as you mentioned on your little write-up. The multitude of layers... very cool. I can also see exactly what you said earlier about "Infinity" borrowing a thing or twelve from this band.

I'll be over there to take a look in a minute...

I'm glad you both liked the CD. The Cardiacs are next to unknown outside of the UK so I have to try and do my bit to try and get 'em a bit more popular. They've been plugging away for nearly 20 years now without much luck, and yet they continue.

I saw the band's head honcho Tim Smith at a Dillinger Escape Plan show a couple of months back and he said that a new album's gonna be recorded in October. yay! :)

Tim Smith occupies a world entirely of his own making. I'm sure he is just ever so slightly insane.

I can also see exactly what you said earlier about "Infinity" borrowing a thing or twelve from this band.

I emailed Devin about it when I first got the Infinity CD, and I got a reply from someone called Tracy (I think she handles his stuff) who said he'd never even heard of 'em before. I sent her a comp tape and she had to admit that the comparisons were "uncanny".

I don't believe Devin Townsend hadn't heard the Cardiacs before for two reasons: 1) "Ants" may as well be a Cardiacs track. The Cardiacs are just too original and have too much going on for someone to just accidently emulate their sound. 2) Tim Smith produces stuff for Wildhearts / Ginger related bands, and Devin was in The Wildhearts for a couple of weeks and is still pals with 'em.

I shall continue to spread the word! :heh:

AND! To take that point a slight step further, Devin even co-wrote the single "Christeen" WITH Ginger, as well as (I believe) "Sit in the Mountain" from the Christeen EP. I don't know why he'd feel he'd have to lie, but the relations there are just too obvious, you're right. Huh. Oh well, benefit of the doubt, I guess.

Take it easy!
