So what's the gold standard nowadays when it comes to direct input recording for guitars? If you guys could use anything what would it be? I remember pod pros being the new hotness, has anything changed? I'm planning on supplementing miced tracks with modeled takes because I'm a fuck and I like that sort of thing.

Pod X3 or X3 Live, is the best portable thing you can get. If you just need studio stuff, get an iLok and get the Pod Farm Platinum plugin.

As of yet, nothing comes close to the real shit. I'm sure you've tried using impulses. Apart from that, some people here have done amazing stuff with their pods with no impulses whatsoever but that really depends on what kind of a tone you're going after.

Honestly the POD X3 live is great for recording - you got to use POD Farm to give you ultimate flexibility

At the end of the day - its really about the Guitar you use + playing technique

I found this when i recorded the summoning with my cheap ass rockwood Les paul copy (great for rhythm not anything else) whereas my ibanez kicks ass for leads and cleans.

I dont think theres any difference except maybe editng and avaiable cabs/amps maybe -

As for axe fx - well it certainly sounds good, but so far, i have not been impressed with the demos from users to make me want to give up my POD.

I think the bottom line is you can get good sounds out of anything (pods, axefx...)

But the real thing will get you there easier...

I'm not sure... do pods still beat out purely software based stuff like revalver +impulses?
