How do you usually deal with outboard gear during the mixing process?
For example if you wanna use a compressor on the snare, do you insert the compressor into the track and use it in real time or do you print the compressed signal in a new track?
What if you choose to have the compressor not as the first thing in the track chain? This way if you print the track, the new one contains everything before the compressor...so at the end you could be limited in terms of automation (not always but you can)...
So what's your usual workaround?
