you guys ever get something that's so over compressed to work on that its unfixable, i am going through this right now and it's driving me crazy..

ive tried expansion, and every other trick i know to reduce the compression artifacts and still the kicks almost disappear...... i think im gonna bang my head off the wall some more till this artist gets ahold of the studio that originally did the work...:waah: This track has all the potential to be a hit, except for all the bricks of love i was sent..................

anyone got any ideas replacing the kicks is not possible....i would post an example but i think the label will freak.....:Puke:

i dont use compression at all on my metal mixes anymore.

the onlly tracks that have compression are, the overheads, and the vocals. (i limit bass)

i level the guitars with a limiter or something similair
and i let the mix breathe into the clipper/limiter.

thats it.

Theres really nothing you can do to FIX it. I would maybe give a transient designer a shot and lower the sustain, maybe combine that with an expander. If that doesn't sound good, you're SOL

Yeah if it's too compressed and it is not undoable then it's fucked.

Kurtz: it is different if you don't abuse it...but I mean that goes without saying really.

i mix and track with as little compression as possible................. This is something i was sent to work on, i think the only way to fix it is to get the orig unedited tracks..

SOL on this one so far , im waiting on the a&R tool bag to get me tracks that i can actually work with... i tired the xpander and transient designer already...

frustrating as fuck, i had today all set aside to mix the songs and cant do shit because of a shitty tracking/editing job on the tracks.......

So is it mainly a kick track thats fucked up? Are they just being snobby and are totally opposed to retriggering the kick or do you mean its impossible to retrigger it in a literal sense?

impossible to retrigger, ive tired everythign besides manual replacement. it if they dont send me the orig tracks this week, im prog gonna have to do it the old fashion way by hand and recreate what i need

No more c4 or multiband compression on the master buss?
