Okay, quick question. I've been programming drums since I first got my interface, and I'm doing a band with live drums tomorrow. Because my micing techniques and my room don't sound too fantastic, I'm sampling the shells. What I need to know is, what are your techniques for overhead micing/cymbal micing so that I get the most cymbal, and the least of the natural shells? I've searched around a bit without a lot of answers besides maybe close micing, but I'd like to know what you guys do.

Just place the mics about 2 feet above the cymbals and aim them into the center of the cymbal to avoid washiness. Then just hi-pass the tracks in your daw to get rid of some of the natural shells

Hipassing from 300hz-600hz will get rid of the shells so much, that the leftovers won't be noticeable under the sampled shells and the rest of the mix. :)
