Overrated 'Classics': Part III

Burzum - Det Som Engang Var
Shitty production. Not necro or kvlt, but shitty. Panzerfaust had a necro production, and is a great album, but Det Som Engang Var has too much mid range, no reverb on the vocals, among other production flaws. Most of the songs do not properly reflect Varg's approprate song-writing voice, and the riffs are clumsily lumped together.
Now that should start and argument.
And BTW, Rust In Peace is the shit.

How is this overrated? Most people cite Hvis Lyset Tar Oss as their favorite Burzum album, although I'd say Det Som Engang Var is the best, and Hvis is definitely praised too much, in my opinion. What Erik said.

no there's a difference between "starting an argument" and getting people to simply insult you, roll their eyes and completely disregard anything you ever have to say on anything music related ever again because you're being a complete fucking retard

Yeah, not many think "Det Som Engang Var" is the best Burzum album. Most people are partial to "Hvis Lyset Tar Oss" and "Filosofem" (which also happen to be my Burzum favourites btw.) I don't really think "Det Som Engang Var" is anything too special.

I have to say Dimmu Borgir's original Stormblast album is a bit overrated.

Personally, I think For All Tid is the better of the two, yet I always hear people praising Stormblast as Dimmu's best.

Much as I hate myself for responding to such eloquently written yet utterly transparent trolling, I fail to see the influences of Iron Maiden, Anthrax or Slayer in Rust In Peace.

When did you first hear RIP? That may have a bearing on your regard for it.

BTW, I'm with Dodens on this one. What is it with all the Thrash haters in this forum ?

wow, your opinion, like, sucks man

Stop listening to music for the music Laeth, it's just window dressing for boobs, remember? You are above that sort of thing.

Next time you feel like wasting 2 hours, (1. listening to an album you know you want to hate and 2. writing a review about how much you hate it) just put a sock over your head, dim the lights and listen to John Laws cite the entirity of the works of Kenneth Slessor, instead. THAT'S FUCKING ART!

Rust in Peace is a great album.

I don't think everyone on this forum completely bases a person's worth on whether they like Det Som Engang Var or not. I just happen not to care for it a great deal. I still think it is better then about 75% of black metal albums, but you have to take my views in the proper context, because a) I'm not really a big black metal fan, b) Burzum isn't my favorite black metal band, and c) Filofosem is my favorite Burzum album.

Older Megadeth has some neat guitar but I have not been able to actually get into it because the vocals. Regardless the band on a musical level is very overrated.

Imagine Rust In Peace & Countdown To Extinction with a solid clean vocalist.

It's still a solid album, but Det Som Engang Var certainly the weakest link in Varg's career chain (with the possible exception of Daudi Baldrs).

You'd have to pretty much be deaf not to hear them. But you've shown a remarkable inability to make simple connections in past, so I'm not terribly surprised

1993, it was crap then, and still is now.

Megadeth wasn't and isn't thrash, so what does, "thrash" hate have to do with anything?
