hello guys, this is like the first time in ages i post something!
I felt encouraged to post this time since i just applied some cute acoustic
treatment to my control room, and man it feels so so good now!

So, i listened to this song i'm producing (for my band's next EP) which i mixed like a month ago. First thing i noticed, it was so thin and OHs where so buried, guitars where so opaque. (makes sense for my untreated room)

I took 10mins to make a few adjustments, and to feel it's 'all right'. This is pretty much a scratch tracking; Boogie at practice volume and just my guitars here, will reamp. Piano content as a guide for the girl that sings 0.48 - 1.02.

It'd be nice to hear your comments about the current balance of the mix, and hear your suggestions in order to get a hefty/solid material!

Used EL8 to process drum tracks and bass, which is recorded through Avalon U5. Guitars are just fender tele 72>mesa DR>sm57+421>Neve5032/Solo610>ADC>daw

Here it is(tuned-up lol):

Thanks in advance =)

Files for mixing practice here: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/7261693/SS%20Files.zip
Amp files Mesa DR (practice volume though): https://dl.dropbox.com/u/7261693/Amp%20Files.zip
lol Heres the bass file ^_^: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/7261693/Bass%20SS.wav

Contains the usual ones
2 guitar DIs, Bass [Avalon U5 eq curve applied, sorry ):*], Midi drums
Taping DI, a little guitar thingy DI, and the piano stuff. I hope they're ok for you guys!
Tempo 123Bpm.
Maping is not that difficult is set for SD 2.

Glad to hear your reamps and mixes!

Cool song, fender tele? what pickups do you have? For a scratch mix sounds quite good, anyway put some reverb on toms.

Nuno, thanks! =D
This Tele i have has the stock pickups (the soapy plated ones!)
They deliver quite a 70-ish sound, that's why i haven't replaced those pups yet!
we'll record the other hard paned guitar with a LP standard through a Orange DT30.

Copy that on toms, they seem a bit little on the mix!

:D

Quite a suprise, in the intro of the song with those power chords, they are very mid heavy but in good way. Never tought that would be stock pickups, it seems that they could deliver metal tones!lol Yeah the toms are very "in your face" needs something to add ambience.

:D well that's exactly where i was aiming when mixing these drums! Kind of dry sounding, and solid! But certainly i feel these toms like small and short hits.
I reduced A LOT the amount of reverb used the first time i mixed because i felt it was pushing the drums so far away. And i'm always terrible on toms, what kind of reverb would you use for these situations?

PD: and yes, these pickups are a bit muddy specially if the strings are used. Had to carve out about -3db ˜ 300hz

I love the song especially the synth parts
kick seems to be too loud or has too much low end for my taste

Thank you Hollow!

Or maybe the bass is to bassy?
i wanted a defined and round round kick for this song, kind of Architects kick drum sound? (not that aggresive tho)

I'll check the low end then!!

Maybe this question is stupid, but where is bass in the pack? I can't find it :( Very nice guitar tone btw ;)

No problem dude. It's a pleasure to mix such nice recorded Di tracks :D
