If they don't like them anymore? Or don't care about looking "metal" anymore Greasy and unkept hair smells like shit and looks more or less disgusting. And usually people who keep their hair just for "metalness" have hair like that.

I don't have a reason to cut mine though. It looks better than short hair on me, and ladies like it (and I don't mean ugly goth whales).

i keep my hair long because i genuinely fit long hair more than short hair(and i like it ) :/ I'm so used to it now that i don't look at it as a PITA to maintain it, even if it probably doubles, or triples the time i spend in teh shower (60 odd cm's of hair require some attention )

So you admit you're only growing your hair long to headbang...because it is NOT any warmer than short hair. In fact, it collects more snow and moisture, and takes more time to dry, thus its actually much much colder. You aren't growing it out for the girls, because 90% of all metal fans are men. So if you are just growing it out so you look better while you headbang, you are trying to impress all the older boys at the concert to show them how cool you are...which makes you a loser.

Long hair or not, whatever, but it doesn't make you any more "metal", and trying to look more "metal" will make you look like a dumbass.

Well, for me it's more warmer in winter, because ears are hidden, and the rest is the same as short hair. (when you have jacket of course)

Also in China lot of great warriors had long hair, but it was many many years ago, now is 21-st century ^^

And i don't let my hair grow only for headbanging, just more like long than short + I listen to metal, that's all.

But I see it's kind of fashion to cut hair nowadays...

If true, that's such a gay reason I never look at younger guys with long hair and think they're cool because of it.

A lot think chicks dig it, some chicks do but most don't now it's out of fashion. I've seen short haired guys pull Metal chicks and long haired guys pull R&B chicks, it comes down to how cool you are..

True, these days there's more short haired guys at Metal gigs, the long haired ones are usually nerds or poser-y.

Dunno how true that is, many ancient armies wore helmets and had lots of other things hanging off their armour to grab including helmet paraphernalia.

In ancient Rome men wore their hair and beards long but after the introduction of the razor short hair combed forward became the most common hairstyle for men a la Julius Caesar.

You right that long hair is easier to grab in a fight and should it go to ground you can get pinned to the floor if it's stepped/kneeled on.

That 'cut hair to avoid slit throat' was a popular line in some army movie and delivered very effectively, I think lice control is more-so the reason. The army is so anal about neatness. I can't see how a moustache or trim beard would be a disadvantage in battle, even cops can wear them these days.

No, just we're all growing up... like Muffins said, I only keep the long hair because it suits me much better, but god fucking knows I would LOOOOOVE to cut it. Maybe once I drop this last ~30lbs I will do it. Beard is definitely going soon though.
