Pantera reunion?? without Dime there's no Pantera.

Their style was a startpoint for all that slam/nu metal shit... I can't say I miss Pantera at all.

Pantera is almost too easy a target. They're like Opeth in that sense: they're so obviously awful and their fans so blatantly stupid that it borders on mere bullying to point it out.

Totally agree, their fanbase is annoying as hell.

I think it's annoying as hell to argue about how Pantera suck on a metal board. They weren't bad at all on a large scale. It's just fucking small cock internet tough guy shit to imply that they were the worst band ever now that their guitarist is dead. Stop with the elitism. It's not cool to bash bands.

I'm not even able to listen to Pantera anymore. I started listening to them around Far Beyond Driven & I used to like them. Now they're nothing special at all to me. Their albums are like paperweights to me, but I would never say they sucked. They're just like a lot of bands; they have good & bad shit.

This is exactly how I feel.

pantera and opeth are musical genius' and i could give a shit less about what anybody has to say about that. they both basically went out there and did some that was extremely unique that nobody had really done before. and i'm guessing that you're one of those guys who listen to the 2nd wave black metal bands all day long, thinking about how much that all other kinds of music sucks

Now taking bets on how much longer before this guy's banned.

Pretty much.
Phil Anselmo is clearly a gigantic fucking idiot. Pantera's fan base is primarily composed of rednecks. This doesn't mean that their music is trash. A lot of it is, but there's some good stuff there and it's as stupid to make obnoxious insults as it is to go the other extreme.

yeeaaaahno.

Also, Phil may be a complete fucking idiot, but he's got a great fucking voice as well. At least on everything he did NOLA and earlier, anyway.

I'm in 100% agreement with you.

Pantera reunion?? without Dime there's no Pantera.

That's the exact same thing they said for...

Queen
The Doors
Alice In Chains
Blind Melon
Boston
Yes
Led Zep
The Yardbirds
Skynyrd
GNR

and countless bands I can't remember, just off the top of my head... Heck, Band of Gypsies (Hendrix's later-era group) got back together without Hendrix. I saw BB&THC without Janis Joplin. The Pantera guys have lucrative cruddy projects to keep them overfed but someday they could still get the urge to get together (it's POSSIBLE, though not likely). A guitar can be redone verbatim. The main problem is Phil can't do the rougher vocals anymore... And hey, if Vinnie Paul is cashing in like this right now, he may want to branch out his cashing-in-efforts later on. He hates Phil but time and cash have healed many wounds like that.

Not saying it's going to happen. But it'd be silly to say it CAN'T. History has shown a wide potential for this stuff. I mean, seriously, who in the mid-90s would have said Queen would ever return without Freddie Mercury?

edit: Also I feel the responsibility to make note of the fact that it's idiotic for anyone to think that Pantera's fanbase is mainly made up of rednecks. I've known a lot of Pantera fans in my life... and I don't think I've ever met a redneck. My name may be SouthernTrendkill but I've never been to the south, I just love that album to fucking death. You know that image you get in your head of a band's archetypal fan whenever you hear that band mentioned? Yeah... just because that image pops in your head doesn't mean that their fans are actually like that. Pantera's fans are rednecks like Burzum's fans ae church burning odalists and Snoop Dogg's fans are black gangsters. All the Pantera fans I've met have been long haired thrashers. But maybe your definition of redneck is different form mine; do Slayer fans count as rednecks?

Well... You could also take the fact that Phil and Vinnie hate each other to the point where Phil was not even allowed at Dime's funeral... and Rex isn't coming without Phil. Even contemplating a reunion is stupid. It would be Vinnie Paul and some other scrubs. Hopefully this won't be attempted.

And they were right, imo.

Fair enough. But the reunions did happen. All I'm saying is they could get together as "Pantera" again.

Yeah yeah, but that's just right now. Time changes a lot of things. Think of all the band feuds that cooled over time. Wait until these guys are 65 and they're all caught up in their mortality and their legacy and they want to see a crowd that's bigger than a club audience... Not saying it will happen, but there's a chance. I'd say stranger things have happened. Granted, this is perhaps one of the heaviest feuds in music history. But people's perspectives always change over time. There are a lot of different ways Vinnie Paul could come to terms with Phil. He could decide it wasn't his fault or that it's important to get along just for one show to tribute Dime's legacy.
