Hey guys , I ordered some more ram to max out my computer the other day. It came today , I put it in my PC , and it wouldn't boot - screen wouldnt turn on , no usb power , and it made a beeping noise three times. Through trial and error I found that it was the RAM , which I thought was the correct kind (I even used the crucial scanner tool on crucials site , and this was the ram they told me to buy). So now I have to send the ram back to amazon and get a kind that works with my comp. I thought about just buying the exact same ram that was in my comp , Crucial Ballistix , which seems pretty good , but they no longer sell the exact one I ordered on Amazon anymore (or tigerdirect). So for those of you in the know , please help me out with this - I have one 2 GB Crucial Ballistix stick in there now , along with 3 1GB sticks which I am going to replace with 2 GB sticks for a total of 8 GB. This is the Crucial Ballistix that works with my comp that's in there now :

And here is the closest thing I could find on amazon , a 6 GB pack of 3 sticks of Crucial DDR3 Ram (what I have)

Is that the same RAM , just a newer model or something? All these numbers are strange to me so I'd like to be sure before I drop another $70 on ram that doesn't work

Cass timing's are different on those sticks. Since the first one is closest to what you have it'll be 6-6-6-20 and the newer set is 7-7-7-24 they'll all be downtimed to 6-6-6-20 when the chipset auto-comp's.

Translation, they'll run at the slowest stick's timing. Doesn't make a difference if you get a faster set.

What will make a difference though is having difference voltage ratings. Try to match that.

Thanks for the info sprack ! My bro's an IT guy so he helped me out a bit before with this. He said the same things you did about matching voltage and stuff. He told me to order this , so I did

Do you think that is a good match with this stick

or should I just get one more of the corsair I just bought to make them all the same , avoiding the timing issues etc?

Your motherboard is a dual channel, you cannot use triple channel. I would advise to get 8GB of RAM, 4 sticks of 2GB and not blend pre-existing sticks with new ones. That way everything will be compatible. Look for either Crucial or Corsair 8GB DDR3 PC3-10666. Model doesn't really matter considering being that specific will get your models in the same price range and will perform equally, its consistency between sticks that really matters.

Damn I just read this after I already ordered the triple channel 6 GB pack... this is really getting annoying... now I'm going to have two returns going back to Amazon, (and I payed for 1 day shipping!)
You said Corsair DDR3 PC3- 10666. That's exactly what I ordered , but triple channel. Are you sure it won;t work?

Winter Snow , would this work? If it does I'll just order two sets of this Corsair Ram and be done with it. I typed exactly what you said into amazon (and added "dual channel") And this came up

Ok , so when the triple channel ram I ordered comes , I should just not even open it to try it , and send it back for that Corsair 8 pack? Thanks for all your help guys

Two of those would be your best bet.

Or anything in this list will work as well, you can pick which everyone suits your price and preference.
