As for the call that PJ are the most consistent? Hmmm - the first three albums are all excellent but after that there is a definite downturn.

People tend to think this often. Seriously, have you ever listened to No Code, Yield of Binaural? I cannot see how those albums can be inconsistent.

As for the other grunge bands, I really dig Alice in Chains and The Screaming Trees. Jerry Cantrell's solo records are also pretty damn good.

Yes, I own them all. I'm not saying they're bad albums but the first three are classics while the rest are merely decent.

Jerry's solo albums are indeed good, particularly Boggy Depot.

Let him have his opinion. He's the only one out of everyone who replied here who said something like that, but there's a clown in every pack.
He obviously has never really listened to pearl jam if he thinks they are "talentless". They have 2 of the greatest guitarists in the world, the best singer by far and all their various drummers have been amazing (the current one being Matt Cameron from soundgarden).

I've seen pearl jam 20 times in my life, each concert is different from the rest which is what I love about them.
There aren't many bands around who change their setlist so much and put on a unique show every single night.
There isn't any other band I could see night after night, not even Opeth.

I agree with those who ssid Riot Act was their weakest, it is by far.
I have faith this new record is going to really make up for that.

AIC are an excellent studio band. Whenver I saw them live I couldn't walk away from a show feeling satisfied. Kinney always seem to screw things up and Layne, just didn't have it most of the time. When he was on for a couple songs every show, his voice is so powerful it hurts, but the majority of the time he just could belt it out. Cornell is the same way. He can throw it down in the studio but can't keep it together on stage. Although he's been better since he's stopped smoking.

I've never been to a concert where Cornell was involved, but the live footage I have seen of Audioslave would suggest:

They're not overrated...they're just not connected to the other bands beside the fact that they were from Seatle and that Kurt's death had a big influence on Eddie Vedder and as a result Vitalogy was born...
