I recently bought an used Peavey 5150 which has the original tubes in it (power and preamp).

I use it in the studio and would like to switch soon to better tubes.
What do you suggest ? (+prices)

Thanx :)

I love high-gain graded JJ's, but the search function is awesome!

Do you reckon i should switch the stock valves out for JJ's as soon as i get a 5150? I've heard it transforms the amp! Also, what is an estimated cost factor for re-tubing a 5150 completly?

i'm using SED for the power amp, and various preamp tubes, starting with a EH in v1 and v5, JJ in v2 and v3, and another SED in v4.
the EH tubes really sound great in this amp, and the SED power tubes give it a nice midrange almost "vintage" quality.
JJs are way too dark imho
