Hi, it's time to re-tube my head, 1st time for this one, i was considering to give JJ's a shot, i always use Groove Tubes, so any advice or comments are welcome :kickass:

Check out www.dougstubes.com and www.thetubestore.com for reviews and purchasing (I buy from Doug's, just cuz they're great guys, though not saying the tube store people aren't); personally, I love Penta Labs 12AX7's (they take the best of the Shuguang 9th gen. batch and just relabel 'em) and Ruby power tubes (if you're tight on cash) or Winged C's (if you're not)

Thanks a lot!!! doing my research and pricing too, jobless and the way things are here, every cent counts, plus i wanted a 2nd head was looking at ENGL's & Mesa's but that will have to wait
I'll let you guys know what tubes i ended up buying

I had the JSX for 3 years now, and i really got comfortable with a chord that i got on ebay from some guy in Indy i think, the cable goes from the JSX's footswitch to the switch out for the T.C. Electronics G Major and it's awesome i can switch the head & effects at the same with a midi pedal thru the G Major, if i could find that same cable for a Mesa i would do it, actually my friend is selling a Tremoverb that i really like

Yeah, the JSX is a kickass amp for live playing cuz of its 3 channels and switching options, but in a recording it just doesn't cut it IMO! And the Tremoverb is just a 2-channel Dual Rec with more bells and whistles, so I say DO IT!!!!

What about Electro-Harmonics, or Sovtek????? i'm on a tight budget and for $100.00 dlls i can re-tube for the meanwhile, 4 EL34's & 4 12AX7's

Electro Harmonix power amp tubes are supposed to be ok, but their 12AX7's are really harsh IMO. Sovtek comes stock in tons of brands, but I think more because they're cheap than for any sound benefit. A matched quad of Ruby EL34's and 2 balanced Penta Labs 12AX7's (you only need to swap V1 and V4, the other two really won't give you a noticeable difference in sound IMO, so if it ain't broke don't fix it!) from Dougstubes will be around $100 with shipping!

The other two can make a big difference aswell. V2 is used for the gain on crunch/ultra, changes massively with different tubes. Ideally you want a smooth tube in there as the dist circuits are pretty nuts, mainly on the ultra. Drop it down to 12au7 for a little more control. I say the little extra money on better tubes is VERY well spent in the grand scheme. Not just because I loves me some good tubes

Meh, listening to "In the Arms of Perdition" on their myspace, to me it just sounds like a thinner version of the uber-smooth fizz of the 5150 with less balls ¯\(°_o)/¯ And of course, the music is just dandy

Thanks again for the guidance, i went with JJ's all around got 4 El34's & 4 12ax7's for less than 100 with shipping included, besides the tight budget i didn't want to spend more cause i might sell it soon, and about the Mesa Boogie it looks like it will happen in the next couple of months either the Tremoverb or a Dual Rectifier 100 watt head, if only i could find a way to switch the Mesa like the JSX :erk:

The latest despised icon has a sort of roundness to it that makes it really quite different to a 5150 imho, you can really hear it on the palm mutes, and because of that tone I can't hate the JSX.

Hahaha, well ok, it's not a perfect representation, but I can hear enough of it that I doubt I'd change my tune if I heard the CD :p
