Peavey Revalver MKIII.V

Agreed. It seems silly to me to drop the money on something like Revalver, when it's not necessary. You can just use the freebies to get sound that's on par, or better than Revalver. Of course, there are folks that know ever nuance of Revalver, and given that it's highly customizeable they get very convincing results - but to me, they're not that much better than what you can do for free.

And, to your point - especially if the end result is for scratch tracks that will ultimately be reamped later - it would be a complete waste of cash.

Good point, however - however, there are limited amp sims available for Mac users.

I tried using my JSX head with impulses and it did work great, although, I was never quite happy with how it sounded. I'm new enough to impulses so that was the reason there but I reverted back to the old takes I had done using 2 57s. There was a feeling of why waste all that effort too lol. But in terms of revalver, I am just after getting it and it seems like a great base, but when you look through it the fact that you can change resistances, voltages etc, it's quite daunting, but as it was mentioned, if you knew every nuance of it you can get very realistic results. Personally, in terms of mac, it was the only option I wanted to go with

Has anybody tried a real tube amp with some great impulses? I wonder if you could take a 5150/6505 head and connect it directly to the computer where you simulate the cab with a decent impulse response. And if this is possible, do I need a load box, or can I connect directly to a preamp like e.g. API 7600?

I've done this before, it works good. Some amps will let you turn the master all the way down and run from your fx send so you can record silently with it still hooked up to a speaker cab.

TSE X30 is just so awesome, I have to say, it even kicks the ass of 7170! I can't wait to get hold of TSE X50 :D

*sigh*

Different tones, it's as if saying an ENGL E530 kicks the ass of a Peavey 5150. It's a matter of preference. I prefer the 5150 sound, when dialed right and fitted in a mix, it has this smoothness and sharpness at the same time that's insanely satisfying to my ears.

However, TSE X30 is definitely one of the easiest plugins to dial a great tone in right away, if that's what you meant.

^^^Thats what I meant, like when I'm recording guitar tracks, I can just put TSE and one of ryan's impulses and it will sound ok, while if I put 7170 I have to mess around more to get it sounding as good, but hell yeah, both amp sims kick ass!
