I tried searching to see whether or not this is already a thread, and couldn't find it.. So.

I want to compare the two highest rated ampsims in this forum. Revalver and Pod farm.

For me, my hats (especially lately) are going off to Revalver. I feel like it emulates the tube feel/sound and has overall better tonal qualities much better. Especially when you pull in some impulses rather than the built in cabs.

I can post sounds clips if you guys would like.. Same riff reamped through both pod farm and revalver.

What do you guys think?

Revalver Chain---->JSX Preamp--->6505 Poweramp--->Recabinet Impulses

Podfarm Chain---->Criminal (5150 emulation amp)---->Recabinet Impulses

Note that the "mixes" aren't really mixed at all. Just threw in some drums to give you an idea of the tones in action!

im not sure what recordings ive heard that use revalver, but from playing around with both, to me revalver has more "feel" like a real amp. and id rather play through somthing that feels like an amp, then another amp sim which feels like playing an acoustic guitar with distortion on it.

I think pod farm sounds nicer most of the time but it doesn't sound anything like a real amp. Revalver definitely sounds more real

Revalver sounds much more natural than Pod Farm but I'd still go with the latter. The Pod has this real nice thing going on that fits easily in the mix. The fizz can be taken care of. On the other hand Revalver has this mid-range honk going on that really fatigues me out.

So, Pod Farm here.

Yeah.. Like I said, I didn't spend any time mixing anything in the clip.. Nor did I edit it (except for the little breakdown section).

So basically judge by the realness/tonal qualities rather than the mix, because both sit in a mixed song very well!

I really do not like PODfarm's 5150 sim. The Cali Diamondplate is the only usable model for me.

go for a real amp and dont waste your time trying to make an ampsim sound like one

I do all the time. But sometimes ampsims come in handy. It's good to keep your spectrum wide rather than narrow. Just like the real drums vs fake argument.

unless your in an apartment or you are not in a place you can blast an amp. Amp sims are amazing for what they do. Just use them to monitor and if you dont like the tone send out the DI's for reamping

Pod farm is winning this one for me based on those clips, but i think it would slay if you blended the two.
