On a serious note Ive heard there albums at a friends house... sometimes they sound like stoner metal.. not my cup of tea..

All I've heard is Australasia... Boring as hell.

i like it quite a lot. i think the effect is you gotta play it very, very loud, and just listen to the chord changes. lol

i'm not really a fan. it all runs together a lot. not much variation. and i know you can say that about any bands but it's more so with Pelican. and to be honest i've only heard Australasia... so if things have changed since then let me know. i might check em out again.

This thread is hilarious, especially if you're familiar with this band, which is about as far removed from power metal as possible, which is a good thing in my book...I'll still recommend their albums for anyone who likes epic and heavy instrumental music here, the latter has less of a stoner feel to it if that word turns you away.

No. They had seven or something... and they're all equally exhausting.

Well, from my point of view, they're not the good kind of exhausting, but rather just tiresome.

From what I can gather, this is what I have:
- Australasia is their most known song.
- Alot of their material runs together.
- They're far from Power Metal.
- Their long songs aren't that good.
- They're more Hippie Stoner Metal than Power Metal.

All in all, it's bleh. That's in between good and bad in my book.

I didnt want to say anything negative .. because bands are just personal preference ... but for me they arent doing anything exciting at all... some of there stuff sounds like stoner metal lol.

Well, plenty of ass-kicking bands don't shred at all... Pelican's just boring as hell, pseudo-artistic sludgy slow metal. That's the only way I can describe it.
