Hey dudes.

Quick question.

Doing a full length in march.. 11 songs total.

Would it be most wise to charge by the day, in this case, or just give them a total for the whole album?

I wouldn't say the whole album, because who knows what might happen after a few songs, you lot might fall out and shit, song by song would probably be best

I split the price and itemize, personally. Pre production and tracking is by the hour. Editing, mixing, mastering per song. Added up, they get their (no-so-grand) total.

Unless you have a lot of experience you will likely short change yourself by doing a by-the-song pricing structure. On the other hand if they have a significant budget and you can simply sell them two weeks or a month solid that can work out too. You just don't want to end up looking back and having made $4/hour.

Per day for everything that's been done in the studio. Maybe have on of them sit in when you do editing on a day-off from tracking. Just to justify the time you are charging them for. Give them a per day rate and ask them how many days they would like to book. Then take half the money upfront. You can always add more days if need be in the end. But if they end up breacking up during the recording or something similar you are never gonna get your money so make sure you get some just to confirm the booking.

+1 I forgot about that for a minute.
Yeah, get half up front.

Thank you everybody! You've been more than helpful here :)

Quick question though.. I'm still fairly new in the field, and I like to "include mixing" with the rates..
