Pick Angle

when i play all downstrokes palm muted riffs, my pick is kinda flat against the strings. When i sweep it has a wierd upwards angle and has a 30degrees angle to it sideways, and god knows how when i alt/economy pick. don't follow my advice cause it is probably wrong:lol:

My rhythm playing has a chunk of my index fingernail hitting the strings as well, I never let my solo and rhythm techniques change as it just complicates things.

good question.. I always wondered if I was doing things wrong, but I guess I'm just doing fine.. I just need more practice since I just started technical soloing 2 months ago

I guess it's a very important technique to learn how to stroke the strings (lol) with both sides of your pick when going for faster rythms and/or solo's. I remembered having a hard time keeping up with fast rythms because I only did downstrokes for a while, and now I can play really fast without breaking a sweat :headbang: I remember consequently changing the angle of my picking, the tip of the pick is more vertical towards the strings nowadays, to hit the strings in a fluent way. Just be careful not to hit the other strings.. it takes a while to perfect it, but it is very handy to train scales and arps while at it ;)

But to come back at your question: I think it depends on the guitarist way of playing, and maybe you don't even notice the difference between rythm/solo picking.
Unless it's one of those uber 1337 and secret angle techniques that makes Steve the guitarist he is today I guess
