i have a friend who bought an emg 81 and a dimarzio air norton for his ibanez rg220b. a while ago somebody told me that to get only one emg, you need to have seperate volume knobs or something on the guitar. i dont know if this is true or not. but my question is if he just bought those two pickups for that specific guitar, would they work? or would he need to buy something else. i apologize if this was asked like 20 years ago or something. thanks for answering in advance.

when i had my 81 installed on my black jackson, the guy said that active and passive pickups cannot work together on the same circuit, his Air Norton must be hard wired in (i.e. volume knob has no effect on the pickup)

for some time i had a passive/active setup, but i got rid of it because you have to have some kind of way of creating a balance in output of your pickups and every single active pickup out there has a hell of a lot more output then 90% of your actives(x2n's, dimes, invaders,xl500's, etc. excluded)

Wow. I'm not going to comment, as it hurts my head to think about what you just said about passives and actives.
