Do you like dogs better? Let's not be too biased, they're cute too.

Aww, that's one cute dog! Even though I don't like small dogs that much (except my friend's three chihuahuas, also papillon dogs and pomeranians are often pretty sweet), since I prefer bigger breeds. Finnish spitz and English cockerspaniel are my favourites, yet I love also arctic breeds like huskies and samoyeds.

"Bleh", says this bear... this was taken this summer in Ähtäri Zoo.

These are from one beautiful version of Kalevala, which I have - I love the illustrations in it. The artist is Pirkko-Liisa Surojegin and I like her style a lot.
Then the story is written in modern Finnish language, so it's much easier to understand, yet there are parts from the original poems here and there.

Which reminded me of another artist whose works are insoired by Finnish themes and also have some kind of shamanistic feeling in them. The artist is Mirja Nuutinen and some souvenir shops sell her postcards.

I have some of these cards, including my own favourite animals, of course...

I guess that she is, never met her as a person - at least the name doesn't ring a bell. Nevertheless a cool drawing, especially in large size!

Tuuletar wow you have a lovely and beautiful book of Kalevala! I collect books f.i. Kalevalas or related books and Kalevalas for children too. My brother was visiting us a while ago and in a car he saw Kalevala (I had just got it from the post office, I ordered it). Then he saw another on a table of our livingroom and some in kids' rooms. He asked am I ever even out of a house without Kalevala, like gardening without Kalevala near me? Sure, I don't sleep with Kalevala! I made him read a bedtime story for our youngest kid and you can guess of what book is the storytime book. We have been teasing our young son that if we don't hear him playing his guitar enough we will buy him a kannel, he is horrified I try to find your book Tuuletar by a name of a book writer.

^ On se sama. Heh, I remember that I bought the same book right after discovering Amorphis - I guess I just wanted to recall the whole Kalevala-thing because of the lyrics.

That's a pretty awesome tattoo. In general I don't like tattoos much, but this one really well done, and its on upper arm/shoulder which I think is a best place to put a tattoo on.

The tattoo is currently in the phase where it feels like a sunburn that's starting to heal.

Next visit will be getting a perched raven on the bicep area to fill the gap between the Neo-nordic tribals on the forearm and the raven on my shoulder. After that, Adam and I have to decide on a gray background design that will pull the whole sleeve together.

Also, has anyone ever told you, and don't take this as an offense, that you really look like Gerard Depardieu and Esa Holopainen in one?

I told you not to pay attention to the canvas...

A bit of Depardieu around the eyes, perhaps. My nose is less French and more Swedish, (think Stellan Skarsgård for reference).

Depardieu is looking a bit like two of Holopainen these days. o_0

Hahaha, I love you guys.

Yeah, I meant Depardieu when he was a bit younger, but regardless, I still get the feeling that when you speak, his voice will come out of your mouth.

As for Esa...I'll be honest, until you posted these pictures of yourself here, I wasn't completely sure if the avatar was you or Esa. At first I was sure it was Esa, but I started having my doubts. However, it's only now that I'm absolutely sure.

Arm almost done. next up is a tree background with roots made of lightning.
