Pierced From Within vs. Despise The Sun

'Pierced From Within' or 'Despise The Sun'?

Its difficult to compare the two, obviously, as they've got such different playing times....and i'm not a big Suffocation fan anyway.

But, Despise the Sun. Pierced From Within has some excellent tracks on it, but it often bores me whereas the compactness of Despise the Sun is more satisfying. Its songwriting is also much more straightforward, which I prefer over the various mid-paced dirges of bass thrown-in for complexity's sake on Pierced..

Despise the Sun for me, i have both those albums but despise.. just has the edge for me

"Despise the Sun" does it for me, too. "Pierced from Within" is great, but, Despise has that edge to it.

Pierced lacks direction at times, so I prefer Despise but I believe their newest will be even better when it comes out

That's why it's better than Pierced From Within methinks. Some of the über-tecnical mid-tempo passages in Pierced From Within are rather pointless, I feel, and can ruin the song structure. Still, Pierced From Within is one of the death metal records I enjoy the most.

If the new song, "Deceit" is any indication of things to come, the new album will OWN. Suffocation sound awesome with melody.

I was totally unimpressed by Deceit. I'm hoping that the new album will blow my head off.

Maybe it was just the obviously shite recording quality .....but Deceit doesn't do anything for me either. Then again, I keep forgetting that i'm really not big on Suffocation anyway, heh.

Pierced from Within for me. Then Effigy of the Forgotten, then Despise the Sun.
