Here are a few pictures of my living room which I want to (partially) tread acoustically to use it as my mixing room as well.
Of course I’m not going professional with this. Nevertheless I want it to be as good as possible.

Here’s what I have planed:

My dad is going to mount two custom-made 30x30 centimeter (approximately 12x12 inches) “platforms” to the desk to place my monitors on. Below the monitors I will use these: http://www.thomann.de/gb/primacoustic_isoplane.htm

Does anybody know how much these add in height? Would be helpful in order to know how high the platforms should be.

On the wall behind the desk I wanted to mount two absorber panels (1x1 meter / 40x40 inches each) next to each other. If necessary I’d do the same thing to the wall behind the keyboard. What do you think?

I haven’t decided yet on which absorbers to get. Maybe these http://www.thomann.de/gb/takustik_sap_pyramidenschaum.htm or these http://www.thomann.de/gb/takustik_noppenschaumstoff.htm.
The first ones are quite a bit more expensive but are said to absorb frequencies from 500 Hz while the second ones absorb from 1000 Hz. Opinions?

There are still a few changes to the room to be made:

The closet behind the desk will be replaced by a bigger one which will reach up to the couch. So my amp has to go away from its current position. It will either go to where my guitar case can be seen on the pictures or next to the desk where the large bookshelf is atm. The bookshelf itself might be replaced by a smaller one that is only about 20 inches bigger than the desk.

If the large bookshelf would be replaced for the smaller one or the amp there’d be a lot of “free space” on walls which I’m worried about because of reflections. What do you think?

If it’s of any help positions of the desk and the keyboard can be exchanged. I don’t know if the slant wall I’d have in my back then would be of any help though.

I’m looking forward to your advices. :headbang: Feel free to suggest anything from that shop: http://www.thomann.de/gb/index.html

Thanks in advance! :)

Btw this is how I used to have my stuff set up.

This is the corner where my guitar case can be seen on the pictures above. Back then there was different furniture arranged in another way than now in the room.

I guess it’s pretty much obvious I needed change! :loco:

That seems pretty much like a lost case because of the 45 degree ceiling and their reflections, so I would more concentrate on bringing up the vibe of the room. The clinical white walls are just such a buzzkill. Paint it darker and then let it dry and paint some other color on top of it, use patterns etc. Then get some nice lights and furniture in there, nothing super bright. For example this one has very nice vibe to it colorwise:

edit: and get yourself a small rack

Ah well, I was pretty sure that there had to be a typo somewhere. Just didn't expect it to be in the thread title... Too bad I can't edit it. :Smug:

Actually my question was about acoustic treatment and not about room asthetics but thanks anyway. That pic of the room looks really nice. Unfortunetally it's far from what I'm looking for. All I want is to tune my living room a bit within a tight budget.

BTW: I sure would love to have a rack just for the sake of it but my only piece of rack gear is my FirePod so I probably don't need one right now. Also I wouldn't know where to put it... :loco:
Make a few acoustic panels and hang them in as many corners of the room as possible. Set up your monitors symetrically to the side walls and add panels to where the early reflections are.

...OR just read this:

Thanks for the link. I'll look into that.

What do you guys think about the treatment plans/materials I've already made up (see first post)?

Thanks again.
