New member here... Anyway, here is a short clip of a heavy tone I did that I want to improve. I'm about to start work on a heavy project and this is somewhat new territory for me. Let me know what you think and how this can be improved...

Clip

Any help appreciated...

Thanks,

Steve

Sounds good on my speakers but difficult to critique without drums and bass. IMHO maybe a little less distortion?

Yeah, I agree, it is difficult without hearing it in a full mix... I will say that I have 4 different tracks of guitar with two different tones mixed and panned and the individual tones don't have that much gain, but put them all together and Whoa! Sounds like a huge amount of gain... Thanks for listening, I'll post again with drums and bass...

I might comment if you are willing to zip up the file.
Ok, you mean zip it and email it? Can you not download it from where it is? It is a pretty small file... Thanks, Steve

No, the problem is that I'm at work and can't download mp3 files.

Ok, I just made a zip file, but my Internet provider is having problems so I can't post it to my webspace right now... Sucks...

Dont you HATE that?!!
Truthfully, it's never happened to me before! I'm online, my IP just is having problems with the personal webspace file manager. Never seen that before... Oh well...

Sorry Guys - away from my computer. Ok, here is what I used on this experiment:

I used a GMW star with a mahogany body, maple neck and an EMG 81...

This is actually a PODXT Pro for the amp into Pro Tools MIXPLUS. I did 4 guitar tracks of the same riff and did 2 panned hard left and right with Kazrog's setting based on the "Criminal" amp model and two panned +-60 with DIOBOLIC5150's setting based on the "Insane" amp model. The second set of DIBOLIC5150' setting tracks were 5.5 dB down in the mix. I then sent all 4 guitar tracks to a stereo aux bus that had the Waves C4 (multiband comp/eq) on it. I started with Andy's recommended setting for guitar and tweaked from there. Then, out to the speakers... Nothing else... Personally, I think it sounds a lot like a real heavy amp... I definitely hear mids and the gain is not that high really - it is the 4 tracks together that give that impression... I can easily fix the gate issue an I recognize it is annoying... :)

Thanks for listening, guys!

Well..., I'd say the key is the incredible PODXT tones that kazrog and DIOBOLIC5150 posted here. I've recorded the PODXT Pro many times and the bottom end always sounds like crap on the heavier amp models. These two guys dialed in incredible tones and the bass response sounds like a real amp to me. No small feat in my opinion, these guys have VERY good ears... As soon as you get your PODXT, load these tones and check 'em out. I'd say the best thing is that these tones are going to sit incredibly well in a mix... Also the Waves C4 set near Andy's recommendations really brought life to these tracks...

i have issues with whatever software noise gate you used... that digital click is quite obtrusive.

Well... I fixed the digital clicks - any more comments?

Thanks,

Steve

Not really diggin' it. Sounds very thin and digital, but as well as that it sounds overgained and undefined. Sorry, I'm just not a POD fan, and whilst I've heard Kazrog's patch sound good on some recordings, this isn't one of them for some reason.

Good luck in that ever-lasting search for tone :)

Damn; that out of a PODxt? Now I really can't wait to get mine.

... dude, the tone you had in going in your latest track for UG cd sounded a lot more convincing to me than that.

I don't like that tone- very thin, and harsh to my ears.
