Happy New Year, everyone.

I wanted to get some opinions on recording software. I'm using a PC running Windows XP and wanted to know what a good platform is for recording software.

I started using Cakewalks Guitar Tracks Pro, which was fine for starting out, but it doesn't support MIDI. Then I was using Reaper, but honestly, I can't seem to dial out latency issues.

Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Steve

iirc Guitar Tracks Pro has MIDI functionallity - but nevermind, it sucks anyway! ;)

Could the latency be a Soundcard issue? Which one do you have?

As for software I'd recommend Cubase 4

+1 on Cubase. Some of the industry's best MIDI features I have ever seen. You may even be able to find SX2 and SX3 versions on eBay for pretty cheap since 4 has been out for a while now.

I'm on ProTools 6.1 (still) and I am comfortable.

The point is: choose one that works fine with your operative system, check the compatibility with any external hardware you already own or are planning on buying and stick with it until you will know every knob and every function inside out.
