Plexi kit for modding

I want to build a plexi kit with the intention of fucking it up and turning it into a wall shaking beast of clean headroom. Actually I primarily want the amp for doom metal tones where the idea is to have an amplifier with stupid clean headroom going into a greenback cab for speaker distortion, and distorting the front of the head with an extreme fuzz pedal. What would be the ideal solution for this? Plexi or JCM800 circuit? The Plexi design definitely has more clean headroom, but the JCM800 with its cascaded preamp stages and more direct attack might be better for modding. Would you go with a Mojotone 1959, a Ceriatone SL, or a Ceriatone JCM800 2203?

Fender Bassman Clone :) ;)

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't intrigued. Wasn't really sure if the Marshall guitar amps were the right amp anyhow. Ok, new direction, new question. Fender Bassman, Marshall Super Bass, Sunn Model T (I think these are the ones Sunn 0))) use anyhow... suggestions on a different Sunn amp are appreciated). How similar are these amps and where are the differences?

Off topic but related: I found a schem for the Fender Bassman on freeinfosociety, as well as a Sunn 100S, but no model T and no Marshall Super Bass. I really like the simplicity of the Bassman circuit. Lots of room to add/tweak. I think the other two amps I mentioned are based off the Bassman anyway. Power section is only two 5881's, is this loud enough to cause permanent structural damage to the immediate vicinity?

^For permanent structure damage, I would use 4 KT88s. It would require some mods to the existing circuitry (a 200 watt OT, a beefier PT, and a few mods to the power supply), but that is kind of your whole plan anyway.

I'd pick a plexi kit, non master volume, etc.

However, if killing nearby animals with deafening volume is in your plan, you'd fry a greenback cab, those speakers are rated at 25 watts ( correct me if I'm mistaken) and are "delicate" in my experience ( blown 2 speakers on a 1960X while recording, the amp was a 1987x going to 11)

Now we're getting into DOOM territory! After reading that spelled out though, it does seem a bit extreme for practical purposes. How about either a quartet of EL34's or just two KT88's? The end result needs to be a loud fucking bassy tone with huge clean headroom that can operate SAFELY into a 4x12 Greenback cabinet. Give the speakers a good run, but without crossing the threshold into burnout territory. The vibe I am getting is that the Fender Bassman preamp section is a good match for this though, even though the power amp needs tweaking for my desired end result, yes?

GK12 100s might be a better choice than Greenbacks, if you really want to push an amp for a heavy doom tone.

More just a design constraint I think. I may acquire a 4x15 bass cab to use it into as well, but I love the sound of a 4x12 with Greenbacks, and I don't want to build an amp that can't be used with that combo.

If you're hellbent on a greenback maybe try the Weber version, I think they make an 80W version.

If DOOM is your plan look into a Sunn clone maybe?

Absolutely! Big fan of Sunn 0)))'s guitar tone. Know of any Sunn amp clones or clone kits I could acquire easily?

A 200 watt Major with 2 cabs would get you some doom.

For a Fender you could check out a Showman or Twin. They're like the Bassman but with 4 output tubes. Or maybe just an old VHT power amp.

I play in a loud band with a Bassman (2204 circuit) and 6L6GC's. It kicks plenty of ass.

look at the twin reverb schematic, it has the power section you need.

You could either run 4 Weber version GB with the 200 watt clone, or get a second greenback cabinet. If not that then, definitely two KT88s for maximum beefed up low end (EL84s won't deliver).

I don't know why you are holding on to GBs so much, ultimate doom/sludge massive but tight low end would be 200 watts of KT88 power, into two cabinets loaded with T-75s.
