POD pro Vs Guitarsuite

I have a chance to get a POD Pro for pretty cheap.
Does it 'do metal' better than Guitarsuite?
What I'm after, ideally, is an early Machine Head sound.

i would say that is a safe assumption just look into getting the model packs like the metal pack.

Is there a difference between a Pod Pro rackmount, and a Pod XT Pro rackmount?

The pic of the one I can get is here:

Nope... the old Pod Pro is not expandable, and there are no model packs available for it. Fortunately, you shouldn't need them, as it's pretty good for metal right out of the box. Doesn't really faithfully recreate any amps, but it has its own sound, and based on the last 3 Meshuggah releases, I think that sound is pretty damn good.

Well, I KNOW it was used on Nothing, and I'm pretty sure it was used on I and Catch 33 as well.

i have the pod pro rackmount and it does a pretty good job with a tube screamer in front. i really only use it for demos stuff though.

Isn't POD Pro just a rackmount version of the old POD ? I have the old POD 2.0 and can't get any decent sounds out of it. If someone had the Meshuggah patch, it would be kickass!

Patches won't help you. POD 2 will always sound bad.

I'm afraid you're right.
I still kinda like their strange metallic sound on Nothing

for my use its fine, wich is just writing at home. i would never try and record an album with one. im not really into amp modeling anyways.
