Sorry I just wanted to get this out for discussion... I've been thinking to myself ALOT lately (that's what you do home from college with jack shit to do :))... is there a form of government out there yet that actually works well?? After reading "The Republic" and seeing how the USA act in certain emergency situations... I don't think democracy works well... too many people can twist power their own way... i've never seen any other form that has worked that well in the history of politics... is there a perfect form of government that we just haven't found yet??? Discuss ;)

I don't think there ever will be a "perfect government".

In every case, there will be a leader or leading party which governs the actions of the said state or nation. In this, the choices made will often be representing the leader/leading parties, whatever notion that gets the most votes (Most often the one that the leader wants, through extent of PR efforts.). Thus, the wants of a nation will never be fully completed, as only the most popular/most chosen by brainwashed citizens will be chosen and put into motion by the governing power.

In this case, there is no true freedom as everyone is in effect, serving the governing power and helping the power-elite.

I think.

haha.. yah.. but what if that man turns into a tyrant and slowly brings it back to an absolute monarchy??

You're right. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. In most forseeable cases, even the most hardiest and sentient people will cave in in the face of wealth and decadence.

yah.. i'd like to say i woulnd't give into being an absolute monarch if i were a king... but i'm sure when that power is there... i'd be forced to take it... just like Saurman and Gollum fell to the forces of the ring of power :)

A governing power is a paradox - it comes into affect, it gets corrupted and ultimately, society and mankind goes backwards. You try to fix it, everything gets worse, you eventually work your way back to where you were: a governing power comes into effect.

I still think the idea of a perfect government is impossible - 1) the man/men/woman/women in charge will always have their own ideas, plans and agendas; and 2) there will always be someone to oppose.

yah i meant in the unlikely revolutionary event that united all humans together under one morality code that everyone followed... but alas... i know that would never happen... but it was fun to throw out there

In my opinion, the closest thing to perfect civilization was ancient Japan and/or China: EVERYTHING anyone did was based on honour, and noone wanted to lose their personal honour or their family's honour.

Not like that now.

Not like that..

That isolation is a form of insulation; a lot of the "Eastern civilization" wasn't very civilized.

Ancient japan was corrupt. And everyone has different ideals on honour, and hence conflict shall result.

True, but I guess, at that time honour was more pure in everyones minds.

Now, I think, the general idea is that it can be bought.
