Porcupine Tree - Deadwing drum production

Does anybody have any knowledge of how the drums on this record were recorded/mixed?

I find it really interesting as their ambience seems to come solely from room mics, as opposed to the reverbs that we metal guys so covet.

Yup, Steven lets Gavin handle all the actual drum tracking.

Gavin Harrison has a killer home studio setup. You can find an interview with him on the Sound On Sound website. I remember reading the hardcopy version years before I ever knew who Porcupine Tree were.

I prefer the drum sound on In Absentia though.
