PT sign to Roadrunner

Roadrunner Records issued the following press release today:

PORCUPINE TREE JOIN ROADRUNNER FAMILY

Roadrunner Records is delighted to welcome epic rockers PORCUPINE TREE to our family.

Porcupine Tree is unquestionably one of the most difficult-to-categorise and innovative bands out there. The music is breathtaking, ranging from psychedelic trip-hop to progressive metal, and a compendium of other sounds in between.

Evolving from one man’s self-indulgent creative outlet back in 1992, Porcupine Tree has grown into a well respected major-label-signed four-piece who have released several albums. Their most recent, 2005’s ‘Deadwing’, served to further skyrocket the band's renown and they are currently hard at work on a brand new record - set for release on Roadrunner (excluding North America and Japan) in early 2007.

“Porcupine Tree are extremely happy about our new partnership with Roadrunner Records for our forthcoming album,” comments Steven Wilson. “Roadrunner has established itself as one of the world’s premier independent labels for rock music, and we couldn't be more enthusiastic about working with them to expand our audience and elevate Porcupine Tree to the next level.”
I hope they don't affect negatively their music

lol:Smug: how stupid would that be...
edit: eh, or it probably means it's not going to be released on roadrunner, but some other thing:p
Obviously..

Hmm, surprising I have to say, but not bad, Porcupine Tree is not a band that will allow any outside influence on their music, so I don't fear any drastic change to commercialism or whatever. But of course there will be the special edition re-issues of albums 7 months after they're released.. But then, PT already releases 651 different versions of each album and single as it is..

I don't see that it effected opeth plus i'm sure they get more money to do what they want so it's all good

labels usually don't change anything till they hear the finished product anyhow.

first my dog dies, then PT sign to roadrunner... PT already got most of my money the last 5 years.... now roadrunner will release the new album, and then release a deluxe double cd edition with 6 live songs and 111 bsides (but only like 3 years before the album is released) and i will be forced to buy avery fucking version.... man.....

Opeth had Ghost Reveries already finished when they signed

that's the general formula at RR...if they sign new bands it's usually when the album is already done...they did it with Opeth, they did it with Soulfly, they did with Batzefer and now also with Porcupine Tree
the last time I saw Steven Wilson (4 months ago) he told me that there are Blackfield 2 and a new PT albums coming soon...so I guess the new album is almost or completely done.

It's a smart tactic by RR to have their bands like that...this way the label doesn't have to book or pay for the studio and the mixing and they have a finished product so there will be no surprises ahead like changing direction in mid recording...inside band tension over creative differences and so on...
so they sign them up immedietly release the album and send the band touring with its finest other bands to promote album sales.

but most of you are right...most lables release a limited deluxe edition first and then the regular edition or having them both released at the same time.
RR do release those limited edition cd's after most people already have the regular album...a strictly nerd collector's edition...and a few lucky people who just heard of the band and decided to buy the album a year after it was originally released

Good news :)
I mean pt signed with lava and both in absentia and deadwing were grrreat.
I don't think they'll change their sound or something in a bad way.
Wilson said that he was impressed by the way sludge doom music ''fills'' the room, he might include something simillar to sludge doom sound in their new album, but i'm sure he will alternate that sound so that it will sound like a porcupine tree sound.

A source very close to the band (my bff) whom I went dancing with last night promises that the new album will be similar in style yet blow both Deadwing and In Absentia out of the water. He is my magic BFF so I take him at his word! Normally, I would not believe such things, but considering the strength of the new Blackfield tracks I really believe that Herr Wilson can do anything he puts his mind to! That man is utter genius, and very handsome to boot!
