The new album is great, as is their whole catalog, but don't start with it. With Morbid Angel, you're bettter off simply starting at the begining. Their first album, Alters Of Madness is brilliant and still considered their best by many fans. I've always liked their second album just a little bit more, Blessed Are The Sick. Both albums are masterpieces and you should definitely start with them. Then follow along in order; their third album is Convenant. Also a great album with their sound changing slightly as they became a three piece ( I think, I need to check my booklet to be 100% sure). Covenant is simply an amazing collection of songs as is their fourth album Domination. This is the last album with front man Dave Vincent. I'm not going to go on from here because you really should not start with the new era of Morbid Angel, although all three albums are great.
I just got it last night and I like it alot, more than G. D and F are my favorite and it seems to be more along the lines of F, but with the intensity of G. They brought back the instrumentals, and while the final two tracks (Drum and guitar solos) are kind of weak I think, the others are done in classic MA style. You've gotta have the instrumentals man!
I was kinda pissed with the last one, because the only non-vocal track I got was "The woods" or whatever, that stupid intro. This one is more what I expect from MA, and I like it. The bonus levels are kinda funny I guess. Some neat riffage on there. The solos suck, but hey, they always have.
Others I got were...
Marty Friedman - Music for Speeding - Pretty Heavy with a lot of wierd stuff on it, but some of it is actually really cool.
Dimmu Borgir - Death Cult Armaggedon - Dissapointed, just like i was with the latest Filth album. DCA is basically the same as the last one, just not as good. With the last one, the orchestra fit in perfect and enhanced the songs greatly. With this one, the orchestra just distracts from the song. And the songs are not that good, pretty boring actually.
Opeth - Damnation - Good light rock / progressive....but WTF!?? I was expecting Prog Death. I have never heard Opeth and while the music is interesting, this can't be the best one to start out on! Since I know they can write music though, I will try to get one of their metal albums.
I still want to get Finntroll.
