Is anyone else besides me CONVINCED that Rayden from Mortal Combat was ripped right off of this movie?

The first time I saw MK in the arcade I knew they ripped off of Carpenter. They have similar outfits (Rayden doesn't have the aluminum foil chest though) and the dramatic blow-up-the-head fatality.
