Post your best mix and comment poster above you!

I like the bass. A lot. The guitars on the other hand cause ear fatigue, at least on my headphones. To me it feels like they're too high on presence, I'd cut some of those upper mids out. Drums sound awesome though, especially the kick. The snare drowns a tiny bit at times, though it's nothing too serious. Overall I'd be really happy with that mix. :kickass:

awesome track i love the oriental style!
it's also very well played. bass sounds awesome.
i think the guitars could be a bit lover in the mix, they dominate.
drums sound good but could be mor ein the front. great solo!

here's my mix:

@Soultrash: Drums are distorting a bit, sounds almost like digital clipping, snare is kinda loud and could use some automation on faster parts. The bass is pretty boring, doesn't really bring much to the mix, there's plenty of room for a cab in there.

Don't know if it's my best mix, but it's my most recent, probably fucked up the low mids as always (bass is most likely the culprit there) http://www.speedyshare.com/files/28647656/song2.mp3

I know I've posted this one before, but I think I'm still enjoying this one of mixes the most. It's the topmost Hateskor track on the sample player on my site: http://www.tainted-studio.com/

Mixed and reamped by me, mastered by James Murphy.

I think the guitars are a bit too much on the mid-heavy side, the kick is a bit distracting and the bass sounds a little dull, but otherwise I'm really digging it. Good job! :headbang:

I think this thread is nice change for a while! Here's my best mix i think at least. :) http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7606286/Ilpo2.mp3

That's indeed very enjoyable to listen! Gives the feeling of not wanting to put the song away and makes you wanna hear more ^^ Nice work! Can't really make up any critic though, i am not at that level of greatness ;)

Great thread.

I'd say kick is too powerful, and drums are too mechanical, if they are programmed you could humanize them a little, and if not, you've edited too much IMO even if it fits. Same for the blast beats, too powerful, velocity should decrease during blast beats or fast kick rolls.

Otherwise I dig it so far, maybe a little bit too much limiting/compression on the mastering chain for my taste, i'd say it would be a bit fatigueing for the ears to listen to the whole album.

I'd say this one is one of my best, don't consider it like a totally finished mix it was just a try with a quick mastering chain on it, but you get 95% of what it would be there : http://dl.dropbox.com/u/881054/LeSedna - Inheritance Studio - Paramore cover.mp3

Nice idea dude!

Don't think it's my best work, but still the one I like the most (my own bands album), even if I'd do some stuff different now + I am/was über anal with my bands stuff, so I needed an end somewhen . Here's the albumsampler.

Apart from the a bit machinegunnish blasts and a tad too much power /volume from the kick at fast parts it's pretty killer!
Clean atmostuff is also a bit loud.
Bass is HUGE, and I love the grind
snare is really nice too
great work man, altho with vocals you'd need to adjust the mix a bit.

edit DAMN.

allright, gonna download yours now Mateo

huh...quite hard to say something after listening to Ari's clip a few times...
I think there's a bit much SD2 room on the snare
maybe guitars and bass could gel a bit more, but apart from that I think it sounds good

I think we have to set a rule like "start the post with the name of the previous poster" cause I don't know who you are refering to, Ermz  Also, you cross posted with Mago. Damn if this thread is gonna be that popular, it will be a mess sometimes :) It's a damn good idea anyway P-E. A dynamic thread for mixed ideas and suggestions all over the place.

Ermz, if ever it's mine, guitars are real but it's all vst/impulse. I think it was Poulin Hybrit + s-prehigh/s-pre-8. I definitely agree on the pumpy and mess in the mids.

I don't really feel I'm the most qualified person to judge other people's mixes but I'll play along, seems like a cool thread.

^ Cool stuff. Has a nice attitude.

Perhaps a little congested sounding, particularly in the mids. Impulse/digital guitars? They sound a bit static in the high-mids. A bit pumpy sounding in a slightly messy way. Cool snap on the snare.

Cool idea for a thread too. Sounds like it'll be quite popular.

That's a really cool mix and song. I don't have much to criticize to be honest...maybe the low frequencies on the kick are a little overpowering? Listening on headphones btw (AKG K701).

Love the music, I think I've got your EP. The mix sounds like it's clipping/distorting a bit once it kicks in @ the intro. Guitars are a little boxy and the bass doesn't sit great, a little less lowmids, and some more lows and highs would help that out. Vocals sound fantastic (great singer), could be a little wetter and personally I'd pan the harmonies. Both the vocals and solo guitar stick out a little, but I think that's less an issue with them and more an issue with the rest of the mix.
I think the drums need the most work, maybe it's just taste but I find the kick too 'round' and the snare too small/middy.
Not a bad mix at all, the atmosphere you've got going is really fucking nice, but I'd love to hear it with a few tweaks here and there.

Here's mine. Was a tough mix because for the most part there's no lead instrument.

Hah, seems like I got creamed :D. No worries though, I really appreciate any honest criticism and I know there's much room for improvement.
Anyway, carry on...

It's not a bad mix by any means, but it's just there was no one thing to pick on.
Just checked and I do have your EP, it's pretty killer music. Let me know when you release whatever thsi song is a part of!

sounds really balanced, could have done with some more grit and punch though!

here's one of my better, I was on a tight schedule so I didn't have time to properly master it or humanize the drums properly, or slip edit the guitars in places for that matter.

I agree all above, it's programmed allright and i used barely no time at all on humanizing, guilty as charged, and also the compression factor, i don't pleed not guilty :D For your song, i think it sounds really great and enjoyable/smooth to listen to. Only thing that bothers me the most is a bit slappy kick and the room on the snare, i'd have done some notching on the room mic on the behalf of the snare ringing there to tame it or just compress it to narrow it a bit. Overall sounds very "wide" in a good way, very much because of the huge room sound so i don't know if that's a thing to make a move :D

Marco: Thanks man as always! :D I don't know where you're pulling all those kind words! Like i said to Mateo, i agree with you guys and thanks for pointing the weight of those facts up for me! I just don't put much effort on those issues. And the vocal issue is also true! Great comments thanks! :) And love Harpia Deiis and don't really have a bad thing to say about thee. Yeah as boring as it is. I think we have quite the similar taste on the world of tha audio hehhee!

There's a nice seinfeld vibe on the bass on this track here and there, because of the slap but always reminds me of the series hahaha epic. I think this song's best part is the programmed stuff and the vocals, just fucking gives the tits for the listener. Mmmmyes. Just the right balance of everything. Also dig very much of the kick for actually sitting on the mix soundwisely. Wise wise wise.

Yes! The 1:40 "cleans" kick my spleen. Awesome :D I think it's worthless to say that i enjoyed every second of the song and the mix. Nothing to add.

Those cleans were the hardest part of the mix.. I think he used the wrong pickup or something, but they were just really weird. No idea how I managed to get them sounding halfway decent, loads of processing. The rhythm guitars on the other hand were really easy. :/
And that's not worthless at all, it's one of the best compliments I could get about the mix - that you like the music.

Regarding your mix, I'd have to disagree with LeSedna. Yes, the drums are all really mechanical, but I like it. It's kinda old-school, trigger-everything, and I think it works.. apart from the ride at around 3:00, it just sounds weird. I'm at work atm with iPod earphones so I can't really comment on anything else, but there were a few very slight flams between the snare and kick in there when the kick is doing 16ths, that sound unintentional because the drums are so mechanical. It'd work if they were more natural, but I would go all the way and make everything perfectly to the grid. Also, the bit at 1:39 was a bit of a letdown with the cymbal swells and then there was no real 'impact' when it hit. Guitars got a little sloppy there too.
