I am on a very progressive streak at the moment. There's is lots of good stuff coming out at the moment when you like your metal progressive.
Here is what have been listening to the last few days:
Seventh Wonder - Waiting In The Wings
This wonderful Swedish band mixes up commercial sounding vocals, very well done, with progressive passages in their music. Sounds kinda like the members of Journey and Symphony X decided to record an album together.
A very promising band and a fantastic vocalist
Wolverine - Still
Wolverine used mix up death vox with clean vocals. On this album the death vox are gone. Hopefully forever. It just did not fit with the band. This is a passionate, beautiful and very melodic album. I love it!
Twisted into Form - Then Comes Affliction to Awaken the Dreamer
Sublime tech-metal! Damn good band founded by ex-Spiral Architect guitarist Kaj Gornitzka. And its a fantastic release! Songs you can sing to and still being very technical.
Zero Hour - Specs Of Pictures Burnt Beyond
I have saved the best for last. Up to this point the new Zero Hour album is the album of the year for me. Yes its progressive and sometimes demanding music. But boy, when you take the time to delve into this you are richly rewarded with an album full of power and melody. New singer Chris Salinas, ex-Power of Omens, soars like Geoff Tate used to do. His warm voice carries the band to a whole new level. The Tipon twins play their intricate songs like their is no tomorrow. And drummer Mike Guy handles the complicated and varied rhythms like none else can. One of the best albums I heard... EVER!
