Anybody heard anything worth recommending??? Let everybody know.
Be sure to include WHY you recommend them. It is also helpful to include a general genre description & perhaps some similar artists.

PMR

Jon Oliva's Pain -Meniacal Renderings...The Voice of Savatage!
Firewind-Alligiance...One of the best power metal bands that I have heard in a while, to me they sound like Rising Force with out the Yngwie "wanking," there's still great guitar work on there, but it's not over the top!
You can't go wrong with these two I dodn't think...

blue tears-self titled: sounds like bon jovi mixed with def leppard. if you like either of those bands you'll like this.

kik tracee- no rules: kinda weird band that plays lots of diferent styles. the singer is very powerful though

jetboy: any release by them is good

beyond fear: new band with iced earth/ former judas priest singer tim owens. you can figure out what it sounds like just because owens is on it.

prince: anything by him. this man kicks michael jackson's ass all over the place and gets little respect. what instrument does jackson play other than a 10 year old boy skin flute, prince is a better songwriter and plays about 30 instruments

Seventh Avenue - ' Between The Worlds' - Outstanding Power, Speed, Melodic heavy metal.
PMR Rating = 91 % / 100

Wuthering Heights - 'The Shadow Cabinet' - Excellent Power, Speed, Melodic metal with folk ingredients. I hesitated with the rating but this is the perfect album IMO.
PMR Rating = 100% / 100

Sword - Metalized.... Awesome production & guitar tone, well written songs, great singer. Classic / Power Metal. One of the greatest metal albums of all time. period. And there Canadian too :)

Z-Lot-Z - '92.... My all time favorite EP. Well written Melodic Metal in the vein of earlier Queensryche. Amazing singer too.

Sabaton - "Attero Dominatus": another astounding release form these strong revelation from Sweden, redimimensioning power metal for the 21st century.

Pharaoh - "The Longest Night": perfect metal from USA, forget extreme bands and crappy mallcore, these guys carry the stars and stripes real high. Metal the way it should be, strong, heavy, melodic and fast.

Benedictum - "Uncreation": another point-match for the USA, Veronica and the boys kick serious ass all the way, astounding female vocals, energy everywhere, power and harmony, great band for 2006.

Black Crucifixion - "Faustian Dreams": hats off to one just another another BM band of the bunch that decided to mature and cross the line to great dark ambiental metal, part goth, part doom, absolutely metal with deep clean vocals and mesmerizing melodies.

Most (if not all) af you have heard of Virgin Steele... Formed in Long Island, NY, 1981 - They' got about 17 albums to their credit. Only recently did I actually hear anything by them and they are becoming one of my favorite bands. I strongly urge any any old school heavy metal fan who is not yet familiar with them to look into this band. The new CD would be a good place to start.

Virgin Steele - Visions Of Eden (2006)
Genre : Classic Epic Power

As a reviewer for Metal Archives says....".....We are near the end of 2006 and it seems the latest Virgin Steele release is going to sneak away in the dark without getting noticed. This is a sad thing, for 1. Virgin Steele deserves more attention and 2. Visions Of Eden truly is one of the best epic powermetal albums that has been released last year........"

My familiarity of Virgin Steele is still very limited as this is only the 2nd CD I've heard by them. They are difficult to catagorize but if I had to choose similar artists I would have to say Warlord with Manowar essence. They are completely different from the traditional Manowar sound but there are certain elements that are clearly similar. Awesome CD - Especially the song 'Black Light On Black'.

brand new sin.
i posted about them the other week.
my find of the year.i love that southern style rock metal, really good singing, great guitar riffs, catchy songs.
thats the kind of stuff i really enjoy

Stuck Mojo - Southern Born Killers
Heavy guitar driven metal with a rap type vocalist it all comes together very well!! You can D/L the album for free from one of the previous posts I made.

Saw these guys open for Motorhead two years ago and have been hooked ever since!! Very solid rock/metal band!!!

Falconer -Northwind. The return of one of the most polished voices in metal, combined with catchy folk-type power metal. Not incredibly heavy, but very good.

Steve in Philly

Manticora - The Black Circus pt.1 Letters ... Powermetal Infused with Thrash Metal, with vocals that are a cross between Blind Gaurdian and Twisted Sister. Great Band, Great Album!

Borknagar - Origin ... Black Metal band, but this album is all acoustic, so I cant really compare it to anybody, its just great music and Highly recomended ... Wyvern! get this one!

You may get the "Marriage" (Part 1 & 2, part 3 is called "Invictus") and "House of Atreus" (part 1 & 2) albums then, you'll be blown away :)

Awesome -Thank You. I will be seeking them out. Did a quick check on The End Records and out of 10 VS CD's listed - Only 1 is in stock (The House Of Atreus act 2).

Some cool recomendations here. I also recommend.....

Vanden Plas - ""Christ 0." They are probably Germany's biggest Prog-metal band. I think what seperates them from most other prog-metal bands is that they tend to be songwriters first and use the musicianship/odd time signatures/complexed compositional structurers etc. that make prog-metal what it is, second. The progressive elements that are in "Christ 0" are very strong as there are some long songs on the release that took a great deal of work to write, but the transitions between tempo and chord progression changes are so smooth you don't realize it is "prog" music. Great release.....

Triosphere - Onward

Female fronted power/prog act, shreddy guitars, and just an ass kicking band. Singer has a limited range but her mids are tough & strong.
Think slightly more thrashy DT, with a female vocalist. One of the first newer cds I can listen to from beginning to end without reaching for the FF or skip button...

10 albums from this year that I would recommend:

1. Blind Guardian - A Twist in the Myth

Blind Guardian are the best band in the world at the moment, IMO. They just release classic after classic and ATitM is no different. Well, it is different in the sense of style of album but BG don't make the same album twice. Its close to perfect.

2. Circle II Circle - Burden of Truth

Every Savatage fan should own this album. This band has improved with each release and the songwriting/guitar work is on par with Zak's great vocals.

3. Pyramaze - Legend of the Bone Carver

Flower metal the way it should be played - fast, melodic, and with a bit of cheese.

4. Iron Maiden - A Matter of Life & Death

Its Maiden so no need to explain but I forewarn that this one is a grower. Give it a few spins before deciding.

5. Angra - Aurora Consurgen

The most talented band in power metal. The best guitar tandem as well. Of course, they could not top the masterpieces of Rebirth and Temple of Shadows but this album is great nonetheless.

6. Attacker - The Unknown

You want straight up heavy metal with absolutely no bullshit? Then Attacker is for you.

7. Manticora's The Black Circus Pt. 1

Heavy power metal fused with some modern thrash and some over the top vocals. Cool concept as well.

8. Metal Church - A Light in the Dark

MC fail to disappoint me. Is this a classic? Not really but its another solid release that kicks ass.

9. Jon Oliva's Pain - Maniacal Renderings

Better than the debut from JOP, fer sure. Jon sounds awesome and while the material is not the most original stuff, its still good. Plus, some great guitar work.

10. Temple of Blood - Prepare for the Judgment of Mankind

Don't judge Christian metal by the cover because you will miss this gem. Its thrash with a touch of power metal and not too preachy.
