pounds is a measure of force. So for instance, when a person says that he weighs 170 pounds, that's the amount of total force he exerts on the ground.

kilograms is a measure of mass, and the force of which will vary relative to its location relative to other large masses (such at the earth).
so for an equivalent, at sea level on earth, the force exerted by 1kg of mass is about 2.2 lbs.
