Power Metal greats

Out of those, (on the top of the thread) Sonata Arctica. And as undeniably gay as this may sound, my favorite power metal band (excluding demons and wizards and iced earth because i would not classify them as power metal, and I don't think Helloween or Maiden fitds in there either) is rhapsody. Rhapsody is freaking monstrous and I feel a lot of people are closet Rhapsody fans but I'm fucking saying it, I like Rhapsody, and Luca Turilli too.

Edguy, despite the shocking name.

Not shocking so much as dumb, especially how they came up with it.

My favorite stuff is:

Hibria (thrash/speed/prog/power)
Lost Horizon (first album is thrashier)
Manticora
Secret Sphere (early stuff only, for the most part)
Celesty

oh, to be on topic. BG is my favorite. edguy, primal fear, nightwish, labyrinth are also on the list

ok, i reject the idea that iron maiden is power metal. same goes for judas priest and manowar. they were the catalyst IMO. the bands that inspired power metal

Key Albums Power Metal fans need.

Helloween- Keeper of the Seven Keys Pt I and II, Walls of Jericho
Blind Guardian- Battalions of Fear, Nightfall in Middle earth
Gamma Ray- Land of the Free, Powerplant
Iced Earth- Night of the Stormrider
Raindbow- Rising
Rhapsody- Legendary Tales
Savage Circus- Dreamland Manor
Sonata Arctica- Ecliptica
Dragonforce- Sonic Firestorm
Kamelot= The Black Halo
Rage- Perfect Man
Dio- Holy Diver
Symphony X- Divine Wings of Tragedy
Children of Bodom- Follow the Reaper

I forgot about Ecliptica, I do like that disc.

Follow The Reaper too, and I'm not afraid to admit it. For mindless fun there is almost no better (except Hatebreeder ;))

everyone draws their influences from somewhere else. bands that influenced sabbath arent metal, so bands that influenced power metal bands wouldnt be classified as power metal
