i too am not a huge fan of the dickinson sound alikes that encompass 85% of power metal. try Iced Earth, Pyramaze, Firewind, Sinergy(female fronted but is more manly than most), Kamelot, and Galneryus

If people are recommending Melodic Death Metal like Kalmah and Norther I'm gonna say In Flames, just cuz everyone should listen to them. Also, Dark Tranquility.

Just get some fucking In Flames and be happy with your new favorite genre of music; melodic death metal. I would suggest either Colony or The Jester Race for noobs. Anything will do as long as it ain't Soundtrack to your escape, Reroute to remain, or come clarity.
