PP USA XI tidbit

You won't see Jason or Bob at PP. I keep trying to get them to go, but the prog & power genres are not their cup of tea overall.
They should both be aware of the truthiness of the following statement:

Prog >>> Doom

:heh:

As for the Chicago foul-up .. my bad. I diidn't have either of their numbers at that time, but definately could have tried to line something up earlier ... just wasn't sure what our schedule was going to look like while in Chicago.
Assuming Otep & Papa Roach aren't headling Chicago PowerOzzFest next year, we'll have a chance to get together.

OK, Here goes my picks for next year:

US Debuts: Fairyland, Stream of Passion, Magica, Power Quest, Tomorrow's Eve, Delain, Dark Moor, Amoral feat Ari Koivunen
Other Three: Domenici, Dream Evil, and LIQUID TENSION EXPERIMENT (Friday Headliner)
Returns: The ONLY North American appearance of THERION, with their FULL European setup, with a string section from the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. (Saturday Headliner)

As I have commented previously, negotiations for 2010 were already well on their way before the visa situation came up. I could not pull existing offers off the table. That's professional suicide.

Andre, Tommorow's Eve, and Power Quest are not eligible until 2011 as a result.

You mean that you would not want to have an intimate show with Petrucci and Portnoy? Even with no vocals?

Don't get me wrong... I'd pay to see LTE. However, I just can't see them being booked as a headliner for this fest.

Glenn... although it might be perceived as tipping your hand a bit, do you feel that you owe these bands an invite back? Granted, the visa issue wasn't your fault and I'd bet very few promoters dot as many "I"s and cross as many "T"s, but none the less, do you feel you owe them an invite?

Absolutely.

However, the realistic answer is that things do change over time and it will depend on both the festival and band status at the time. It may be all in the same year, spread out over a few years, or not at all. I cannot predict the popularity of a band 2-3 years ahead of time so I cannot commit automatically. I'd like to think they all were still kicking ass and deserving of a slot. I also cannot predict the budget of the festival that far in advance.

Regardless of how much it sucks, you have to do what is best for the health of the festival.

Cool. Thanks.

I think the Friday night headliner is going to be a live stage show of Rocky Horror Picture Show with Meat Loaf reprising his role as Eddie. It'll be awesome.
