Pretzels

I'm not a fan of House. Dr. House is a pretty awesome character, and for that the show is worth watching from time to time, but I really don't like any of the other characters. That, and it's a little too formulaic to me.

I know a lot of people don't like it, but I fucking love Lost. For real. Awesome, awesome show with extremely interesting characters. A lot of peoples frustration with the show stems from questions going unanswered for too long. The big one that comes to my mind is the significance of the numbers and their "curse", which they haven't talked about since season 1, but I just figure that we'll find out in time. The way I look at it, it doesn't make much sense to reveal all of the islands major secrets before the end of the series.

If you watch an entire season in about one day (which I did at some point) you really come to realise how utterly formulaic the show is though. I mean you realise that either way, but when you watch lots of it back to back it is even more obvious.

Though shoddy writing aside it is still an entertaining show to watch. If nothing else atleast you get to see Hugh Laurie being awesome.

Also a lot of the cases are actually based on real medical cases. Though I'm sure they get lots of details wrong and obviously most of the cases are ridiculously rare so the day-by-day basis at which House meets these people is obviously not realistic.

My dad hates House, Scrubs, Grey's Anatomy, ER and anything that involves medicine in some way. He's a doctor and he gets really pissed when they give a wrong diagnosis on something or whatever. The medical editing sucks on most of those shows.

We're big fans of stuff like CSI (regardless of the horrid medical editing) and Without a Trace though. My family is drawn to crime dramas for some reason.

I fucking hate House, as well as all crime dramas.

Have you watched The Wire? I seriously think it is one of the best police shows ever (infact I hate nearly all other police shows, especially stuff like CSI and NCIS). Though it's a show you really need to start from the beginning to fully appreciate so just watching a random episode this far into the series (they're on the fifth and final series now) would probably not sway you either way.

Seriously though, that show has so much depth and great characterization. It took me a few episodes to really get into it (the pilot introduces roughly 30 characters at once) but it is one of my favourite TV shows now.

I haven't seen it, but I honestly have no interesting investing myself into a tv series. The only thing that I watch with any type of regularity is The Daily Show/The Colbert Report. Most of the rest of my watching is Seinfeld reruns. :p [/fullcircle]

My shows consist of ESPN and other sports related channels, then at 10 I watch Justice League Unlimited and then The Batman before going to bed.

Yeah I can understand. It is a show that takes a hefty time investment because you cannot just watch random episodes of it. If you watch the beginning of season 1 and you get hooked, you will be watching every episode after that. It's one long ongoing story arc so skipping and missing episodes doesn't work very well (it's like skipping a chapter in a novel). Anyway, for anyone here unfamiliar with the show here's a Youtube video by Charlie Brooker (a UK columnist/writer/presenter) explaining why it is so good. And a random video of an awesome scene (isolated scene, no spoilers).

Also worth noting is that on IDMB it scores a 9.7 out of 7000+ votes.

I've actually heard that Scrubs does a decent job of getting the medical stuff mostly right.

All of CSI shows (but especially Miami) are complete and utter garbage. CSI: Miami, to me, honestly seems like it's supposed to be a farce. I wish I was exaggerating but it's that fucking retarded. It's like they save money on writers by having elementary school kids write the shows for them at recess. You could fill a book with the things that are stupid / wrong / pathetically awful about those shows. Complete fantasy.

As for Without A Trace, I've only seen it once, so I don't really have a problem with it. The only thing is, I think the title is all wrong. If someone truly vanished "without a trace", they would never find them. So I think every single episode should consist of the guy standing around a room, just looking at everything and going "Where the FUCK did she go?!? There is literally not one single clue that would help me find this girl! Not a trace!" for an hour. Then the title would be accurate.

That dipshit on CSI Miami talks like William Shatner, but trys to sound like a badass while he does it.

Everytime I see his effigy on the TV I reach for a sharp object.

Not as funny without the writers.
Still funny though.

werd sun, great show. My Dad got seasons 1 and 2 on DVD and right before I left for Toronto we were watching like 6 per month. I am eagerly anticipating returning in the summer and finishing the series.

Oh man, well season four is about to start, so make sure you don't watch it or read about it.

Let me warn you about season three: It starts off pretty slow, for like the first six episodes or so. A lot of people gave up on the show because of that, but once S3 gets going, it really gets going. All I'm going to say is that the S3 finale actually made me cheer because it was that awesome. Like actually stand up and yell "OH HELL YEAH!".

I have already taken quarantine measures but the commercials have already given away that they get off the island (orkfist.gif)

I've realized I hate almost every character on Lost but it is so good. I think the only characters I like are Saeid and Locke, although I could do without the moralizing about torture or the spirituality crap.

What's everyone's opinions on HBO series? The only one I've watched in full were both seasons of Rome, which was incredibly awesome. I wish they could make a third season but they would either have to bullshit some plot during the Pax Romana, or else set it later in history with a whole new cast.

The fourth season will feature flash-forwards as well as flash-backs, so we know that they get off the island eventually.

Locke is by far the best character there, and he gets a lot cooler and more interesting in s3. He is, without a doubt, the most interesting character in the show. Desmond, who you've already met, also becomes a regular in s3, and his story arch takes a huge, awesome turn. S3 also sees many of the Others becoming important characters.

Seriously, though, how do you not like Hurley? Or Jin?

Yes. I'm currently watching season 4. My girlfriend & I have watched three and a half seasons in about a month and a half. Awesome show. I was quite hesitant to get into it because of the fact that it's essentially a police drama, but it's so well written and acted that I've become completely addicted. I love how the police are portrayed as real people who fuck up all over the place whist doing interesting work, and how there is little focus on heroics or sentimental garbage, and how cases never end up wrapped in a nice neat little package where the good guys solve the crime and put the bad guys away for life. Apparently one of the main writers is a former Baltimore police detective & school teacher.

I'm a HBO fan. I've watched and loved The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Deadwood, Flight Of The Conchords, Entourage, and of course The Wire. The only one I've tried to but never really got into was Oz. Big Love looks interesting but I've only seen a couple of episodes.
