Pro tools 7 "could not complete request because there is not enough memory". w/pic

You've got 4gigs of ram.
Turn of paging file (virtual memory), and take care of the processes that are going on in the background.
Worked for me. I've 2 gigs of ram, and I can work with 31 stereo busses flawlessly. No kidding.
I'm on Pro-Tools M-Powered 7.4, Windows XP service pack 3. Core 2 duo 2.66 ghz

http://www.blackviper.com/ saved my ass big time.
Tweak the shit out of Billy Goat.

thanks for the tips everybody!

Windows is a strange OS. Even if you've got lots of Ram it's still gonna cache your hard disk to store stuff. We definitely wouldn't want that if we've got 4gigs to spare.

The task manager shows plenty of free ram, but pro tools says it's out of memory - It's the disk cache. There's a limit to how much utilization a disk can take. You need disk cache for gaming (faster loading times), not audio/video production

If you're not comfortable with blackviper.com, alternatively you can try googling "Optimizing XP for Audio Production". Plenty of goodies out there.

I can even run upto 12 instances of drumagog - even after tweaking the latency down to 0ms from the settings there. But that would require you to spend 4hours and tweak everything possible.

I'm assuming you're using Windows XP Service Pack 2, go ahead and click one of the links in the black viper site that says "Windows XP Service Tweaks (SP2)". You won't regret it.

Microsoft is a bitch.

Hope that helps.

Cheers!

Oh btw, before you do so, give me a buzz. There are somethings which you need to be sure of.
