Pro Tools 9

And for everyone asking how to edit without slip? This is what I do
Tab, b, move into place, tab, b, move into place and I repeat this for the whole part and then go back and crossfade the gaps
You need the a-z shortcuts turned on for this

So if you want to use more than 30 external hardware inserts, (you know, because you most likely want to hear something so you use 2 outputs for monitors), you need to get the HD or HD native? Thats kind of a bummer, but I guess I can live.

Yup, its a slightly strange one that i thought they would have made more io available with CPTK2,
But perhaps they are holding few things back for future releases,
Either way it sure beats the 18io of LE and MP
When i setup up my gear properly i will have a few jack fields anyway for patching so il will all be fine,

guys, just a Q: I don't use PT since, like, version 6, and I was just starting out. What do you PT users use instead of slip editing ?

Depends. What are you trying to edit?

If you're editing vocals or bass, then Elastic Audio, rendering using the X-form algorithm, is astoundingly intuitive and fast - much better than slipping for me. The rendering can take a little while on current CPUs but the actual workflow is second to none.

For drums you've got beat detective, and for anything that you have to get intense with you've got tab to transient, quantization and 'regular' slip editing.

One really cool thing about ProTools for me, as far as editing is concerned, is that the UI is so much more pleasant and readable than any other DAW I've used. You can tell most of the time where the transient is... and even when you can't, tab to transient will help you find it most of the time. Half the time I'm slipping in Cubase its mostly guess-work looking at those fugly non-anti-aliased waveforms.

Auto-fades would be really handy though.

Yes if i want to apply an effect that takes 1% of my CPU to 1 hour long audio file... i prefer to wait 36 seconds rather than 1 hour :)

In which case i stand by my last statement that perhaps PT isnt for you

Or if you knew how to use PT you might just use an audiosuite plugin

Oh so there is a workaround now ? New to me :) Looks like i live in stone age then hahahaha !

Audiosuite has been in PT longer than offline in pretty much every other DAW,

Again i think here we have a case of bitchin without actually knowing the software well enough to warrant the bitchin

AdamWathan has been kind enough to start a thread for you here:
(you might not be a Reaper user but the message is the same).

So can i for example wrap any vst plugin in a vst/rtas wrapper and then render the audio offline using the audiosuite ?

Researching it now...
