hey guys please help...

i can't figure out how to hear what im playing through pod farm in real time

i can hear my guitar di, and i can record the di then hit play and hear it coming through the pod farm preset, but i can't figure out how to hear what im playing while recording / idle

You have to select between Input Monitoring or Auto Input monitoring in the track menu.
Arm your track to record and the I button (but it depends if you choose Input or Auto)

Maybe this could serve as the single thread for all of your PT questions? :D

Anyway, all you should have to do is select the correct input for the track, load up POD Farm and hit track input monitoring/record enable. Is this what you're doing?

it doesn't work

pod farm automatically goes inactive when i hit record enable
even if the I is clicked on or off before or after hitting record enable

in otherwords, as long as its armed, pod farm is off

You are using RTAS? If so, when the track is in input monitor or record, the plug will bypass itself. You need the TDM version to use on live input or record enabled tracks.

You can use, but it is a real pain to do so. You have to create 2 auxs and 1 audio channel. The first aux will be your input. The output of this channel you put to a bus. This bus will be the input of the 2nd aux, and this will have the RTAS plugin. This aux will go out to another bus, which will be the input of your audio channel. This way you will record the signal processed, if you want to record the signal clean you create an audio track and an aux, the output of the audio track will go to the aux with the plugin, that you will use only to hear the distorted signal.
Its a pain in the ass to do this, i hope you understood it all.

You have to insert the TDM plugin after the Podfarm....
I'm not sitting in front of an HD Rig but:
The Manual said:
Ordering RTAS and TDM Plug-ins on Audio Tracks (Pro Tools HD Only)
With Pro Tools HD, when RTAS and TDM plug- ins are combined on an audio track, Auxiliary Input, or Master Fader, the order in which they are inserted produces different results:

RTAS Plug-ins Grouped Before TDM Plug-ins No additional voices will be used, and no process- ing latency will occur. RTAS plug-ins will be by-passed when Record Enable or TrackInput mon- itoring is enabled for that track.

RTAS Plug-ins Grouped After TDM Plug-ins Each initial insert of an RTAS plug-in after a TDM plug-in on a track will cause processing latency, and will use voices as described in “Voice Usage and Total Latency for RTAS Plug-ins” on page 874. RTAS plug-ins will stay active while Record Enable or TrackInput monitoring is en-abled for that track.

thanks egan, but you can imagine my confusion when im searching the manual for "monitoring" and not plugin order

because i did not know plugin order made a difference in monitoring latency

furthermore, i'd like to know why there's no TDM version of pod farm

ridiculous...

p.s. i need to send you leopard and about 5 other things to 5 other people so im doing it all at once, hence the delay. thanks for lending me the disk once again.

Sorry Joey.. don't mean to bog up your thread with pointless comments.. but I can't believe PT:HD is as much of a troglodyte application as it is!! This is just ridiculous, like you say.

this makes sense

but i think there's probably an easier way to do it, like one less track or one less step. i'll figure it out eventually. thanks for the help.

Hey Joey, I was just clarifying the weird ordering thing b/c Eddy's info seemed contrary to the info in the manual.
Relative to native solutions (including PT LE) HD is indeed a strange and complicated beast.
No worries at all on the disk. Glad to help.

yeah, its TDM before RTAS so you can exit the TDM mixing realm
