I figure this is asking for advice, and is therefore in the right subforum.. someone feel free to rip me a new one if it isn't.

Hey guys, skip downwards to get to the real question, but I feel I should give some level of background.

I've just moved out of my student house to start my second year of university, and some cockend has seen fit to steal my external HDD, which has meant losing 4 years worth of work, drum sample collections, my last Logic 9 license and a tonne of stuff I had saved for mix practice. Not having a logic license, i've basically had no choice other than to go with another DAW that I had lying around somewhere from a bundle, and as you can guess from the thread title, i've gone with Protools. Problem being, i'm a total noob.

So, if you read that or not, the long and short of it is, i'm not asking for samples etc to be sent my way, but just if any of you guys know any massively helpful videos, free ebooks or anything along those lines that I could use to increase my knowledge of PT10, because truth be told, having only ever used Logic 9... i'm totally fucking clueless. Just the fact that the pan knobs go from 0 to 100 and not 0 to -63/+64 does my fruit in.

Cheers guys!

Thanks guys, sadly i've just realised that Pro Tools Express limits you to 16 tracks, which is frankly fucking useless. bloody ballbagging wank

fwiw I strongly recommend using logic and PT if you are a logic user.

I've used logic since v7 and love it for lots of stuff. you'll appreciate doing your edits in PT as the fades are way more predictable and you can actually see whats happening to the waveforms. it's also good to have the compatibility with PT in case you get sent anything. I use logic especially for composing/arranging, some tracking, mixing etc and PT for some tracking and editing.

Thanks everyone :) I figure i'm just going to learn protools and use it for recording until christmas when I can get logic sorted again, (long story short i've got Logic X as a gift from a family friend, but because we're miles away from said friend except at holiday season, i'm stuck with the initial bugs prevalent in X that have rendered my interface obsolete for recording).

Either way, plan is to record into PT after programming drums in Logic, do my editing work in protools and mix/master in Logic... unless of course the wonderful people at BIMM decide to upgrade me to PT HD for free...

either way, blessing in disguise I suppose!

Thanks again for all your help!
