Profire 610 canot be detected

Brand new. I've been through so much fucking shit for this unit. Got scammed 330 a month ago and had to wait 3 weeks for eBay to settle it, now I finaly get one from another dealer and it doesn't work. It was brand new still in the shrink wrap, plug it in, install the software, restart, nothing. Tried on my hackintosh and on my pc, which both of my fp10s run great on.... What is the deal? I am using the correct installer (10.6.2 for the mac and windows 7 64bit for the laptop). I am really at a loss for words. Is there a chance I have a defective unit? Is there firmware fried? This happened to one of my fp10s, and I had to send it back to presonus.

I tried running my friends profire on a mac with bootcamp with xp and it wouldn't recognize it.

You're directed to install the software, then reboot, then plug it in by the manual.

How? Mine won't work and I've been through similar problems with obtaining it. I just wanna use it

plug the fire wire in. If you are using the 6 pin to 6 pin don't use the power adapter. The interface is powered directly through the fw cable. If you are using the 6 to 4 pin, you will need the adapter. After the cable (or cables) or plugged in, turn the interface on and then turn your computer on. Should work. The computer cannot be turned on first.
