Long time searched something I can put into this forum! Now I found something that is not told in details. So I made quick video of basic velocity ideas I like to use.

P.S. Sorry for my English, still trying to improve it.

Thumbs up :)

Another thing you could add is to experiment with slightly off-grid hits. For example, a snare that is a bit behind the beat tends to make something very groovy; very cool for slow heavy riffs. Gives them a bit of "drag". Ofcourse, you can reach the opposite by putting things a bit before the beat.

Thanks for the informative video!

Thanks you for you feedback! I am verrrry worried about off-grid hits because it annoys my ears, I hear it on spot (just hear flamed sound similar like 2x tom hits or tom + snare). But maybe it's just me and I could close my eyes for snare + hihat hits.

Thanks for the video! I always forget to vary the pitch. It's so obvious but I always overlook it when I program.

Pitch? Or you thought velocity?
I found that varying velocity slightly give more natural feel.
But I showed my methods in programming drums, so maybe you have some more ideas. Also if I have forgotten some type of hits give me a sign and I will tell what I'm doing with them.

Good stuff. As far as putting stuff of the grid I think the most important pieces to do that with are toms and cymbals. Snare and Kick can ride the grid a bit more although I would say mess with it on fills.

Thanx!
Please someone say something - should I make my own midi packs? I'm thinking to make like death/ trash grooves and fills, metalcore/ deathcore grooves, brakedown ideas and fills, and maybe some Nu metal type grooves and fills. Also updating them time after time.

Do it!!! :headbang:

I give thread my stamp of approval! Lots of good info!

A couple things
When two things+ hit at the same time (two toms, snare and kick, snare and toms, etc.), flam them a little. Just turn grid off and place the notes with your mouse as accurate as you can, it usually sounds good. I think usually the right hand might hit a little before the left, but it doesn't really matter.
While the velocity information is great, and will work for most things, sometimes it helps to play around with it. Sometimes a simple 4hit fill can be a short crescendo. Listen to the fill at :08 in Paramore's "That's What You Get", the first two hits are softer than the second two. Sometimes this kind of velocity will work much better.

You should force him to buy the first copy! :D

If he refuses, this might help...

Actually I'm going to make groove pack for you guys with donations. If someone will feel like to thanks and spare some buck I would appreciate it a lot!

You can't imagine how I was jumping around my room seeing this approval! Because You are one of my GREATEST RESPECT list!

Crescendo like hits: really is grate and is needed for right feel of groove. I have had in touch with this some times, because of editing tracked drums in midi and one drummer used it a lot :D (don't know if this right statement in English:bah: this forum make me to practice my knowledge again!)

Great work! Man, this brings me back 10 years ago when I used Fruity Loops to program drums. Honestly, I always liked programming drums in the FL environment. Now I just use Guitar Pro or trigger via keyboards.
Jup that's same with me mostly, but I have to edit almost all notes to get right sound. And after trying other DAWs I like FL better for midi editing (and I don't need notations so fuck that :D) and easy mixing in it. But I'm planning to start using REAPER more for recording.

Thanks for sharing! Now I'm follow your youtube chanel!
Hope you will enjoy that!

:) that worms my heart!
I am already started to make midi grooves and will try to make them to adapt into Toontrack EZdrummer and Superior drummer, also into Addictive drummer midi list. Sorry for those who use BFD or other drum samplers.

Edit: worms<=>warms LOL

not to sound like asshole:
"that worms my heart" sounds like a very death metal pun :D. It's "that warms my heart".
Anyway, nice tutorial, though when i do it myself i prefer to (un)snap it out of grid for atleast 2%. Livens up the performance very much.
