ok any tips on this i built a computer and i have a amd 64 3500 prossesor and 1.5 gig of ram and also got 2 hard drives one for audio one for operating system my mother board is nforce3 or something like that but i spent a pretty pennie on this!

I still drag this thing to its knee's when im mixing and i tey and uses busses and write plugins if i know it's what i want but i feel like im not geting 100% of what i should be or something???

i have hardware buffer set to the highest seting and my pc usage % is set to 85.......

I've got the same processor and 2Gb of quite nippy RAM, and my CPU usage is normally around those levels too - seems about right to me.

I know it's obvious, but make sure you aren't running anything you don't need in the background and you might squeeze a few percent more out of it, but don't expect miracles; it's a pretty average set up spec-wise.

so you drag your pc to its knee's too i take it. Seems like i am just short of having enough cpu close but no cigar!! guess i will just have to mix around it and print shit to the track if needed :erk:

Broken, I see you're in Detroit. I'm across the river in Windsor. If you'd like to see SawStudio in action, and see what kind of horsepower you can really get out of your machine, contact me & we'll set something up.

shit oz id love to come check out the studio and see the saw studio in effect i watched a move tutorial on it like a month back

looks nice I'm just dreading learning another program

i get layed off in a month or so and will have a shit load of free time so we will set something up :kickass:

Wow, does Protools hog THAT much CPU?

I'm running Samplitude on a P4 2.8 1GB RAM machine right now, and I can playback 45 tracks with a ton of plugs and not have the CPU meter over 40%.

Now recording latency sometimes gets to be a problem though...

I'm using Sonar though :p Sonar itself is actually quite friendly and small - sitting idle it's more processor friendly than say Photoshop. The problem for me is plug-ins. Some of my favourite ones are the biggest memory hogs, and once you have Drumagog on a couple of tracks and Pristine Space running the usage meter shoots up pretty quickly (I don't like to mix them down because I go back and tweak them endlessly).

Saying that, up to around 75-80% there's no actual difference in performance other than a slight pause between hitting start/stop and it starting/stopping - there's no latency problems and stuttering or drop outs.

Steve

yea i think thats my problem too i got like 3 traks with drumagog going and then some other hogs like ezdrummer and a bunch of eq and compressors and man my pc is just done!! Try to throw up an amp simulator and pow thats all my cpu :Smug:

is another program really gona help me if im using all these same plugin's still??

Drumagog + EZD + Plugins on 1.5gb of RAM, and you're wondering why your PC is going to shit? Remember, Windows doesn't handle RAM very efficiently at all - you're going to need more than you've got going now.

I'm still stuck with the original Drumkit from Hell, but I can run like 5 instances of Battery, plus another 3 of my favorite soft synth (usually Absynth 3) on a 1GB machine...a total of 8 VSTi plugs, plus say another 15 or so Wave plugs without any problems.

I've been curious about upgrading to EZD or Superior. I've checked the specs on both, but I'd rather hear from real people. Are EZD and Superior THAT hard on memory?!

And what is the advantage of using Drumagog with Superior or EZD? I've heard it's so that you can use other samples that aren't supported by Suprior or EZD's sampler, is that correct? If I were to upgrade to EZD or Suprerior, I assume I could accomplish the same with Battery loaded with 3rd party samples? Stupid question I guess...

My question is does pro tools support dual core or dual processors? I know that cubase LE doesn't wich is why I upgraded to SL 3.

My advice is:

Go here: http://duc.digidesign.com

And there's this thread "troubleshooting..."

Do all the tweaks suggested and you should be good to go...

Also search through the M-Powered Thread even if you're on LE (some useful tipps are there regarding "performance tweaks"

I meant that more as a comparison: If PT LE is to PT HD then cubas LE is to cubase SE-SX.

So I don't actually have pro tools. I have cubase SL 3.

dumb question quite off topic: how do ya "print" tracks with plugins on them,
or say a midi track running a cpuintense vst to a wav with nuendo ??
i know the freeze feature and i know the mixdown feature obviously,
any faster and easier method ?
