wow, I find it hard to believe that something is censored in germany but not in the US....weird.
buy it of ebay UK or whatever and pay with paypal?

Mortal Kombat 1-3 are banned games in germany. That's why you can not download them. When MK2 came out in 1993 it was one of the most brutal games out there. If you want to play it the way it should be played get Mame (multiple arcade machine emulator) and MK2 for it. It wonders me that it's still up for download though. All Midway games got kicked from the xbox live market because Midway was sold to Warner Bros.

Ermz: WWII games are beeing censored when they show nazi-signs. Usually the brutality get's pushed down, too. Usually it's pretty easy to get "Blood-Patches" for the german versions.

I have it , it's actually just the arcade version of MK2. Still badass though , but nothing remastered about it. I'm gonna pick up the remastered version of Final Fight today

These things makes me so mad... I play it on PSP or Mame. Scorpion is such a badass.

Oh, and waaay off-topic. I know that in this case MK stands for "Mortal Kombat", but I was wondering these days what do the initials MK stands for? I´ve seen many products using it after the name, like Density MK II, Revalver MK II, etc.

Too bad I collect those beautiful MK arcade cabinets and yet I can't find anyone who would beat me. At least not in MK 2. That's why most people wont even start learning the basics. MK was just never a game you can easily pick up. I do think it had much more impact in the US because most MK titles got banned like 2 weeks after they were released in germany so everony was really good in SF plus there are really just a few Arcades around here. It was something really special when you had the original snes MK2 cardridge... :)

I was expecting a thread about choosing a PS3 over a 5150 mkII

nice approach. maybe someone can mod a PS3 and use it's power to run a
accurately subtle 5151 MKII sim:lol:

it's download only :(

Doesn't your government censor all the WWII games? I remember installing Wolfenstein and the disclaimer shouting in my face to kill myself if I were in Germany.

some stuff is censored, some stuff not, whacky...:erk:

MAME doesn't run well for me, no fun here.

it's download only

and FYI to OP: my Visa Electron card works perfectly with the FI, US, UK and JP PS3 stores.

master card here.
says something like "this card is not allowed to work wit this adress"

MK stands for "MARK" IIRC.

My GF is always playing Mortal Kombat on PSP

good girl!

Aren't Cannibal Corpse cd covers censored in Deutschland?

Was gonna say this, I read somewhere some time ago they weren´t even allowed to play any material from their first two albums live. Which is pretty dumb, like the other stuff is less lyrically gorey, and like you can actually understand the lyrics just by seeing them live.

I had (probably still have somewhere in Venezuela) the original SNES cartridge for MKII, brutal game, so was MKIII which I had in Sega Genesis, I even had the official strategy guides and of my biggest childhood hobbies was performing fatalities, animalities, friendships, etc.

No and yes. ;)

Technically, censorship doesn't happen here. You can put out anything you want but it might be reviewed (upon suggestion/proposal) by the "federal department for media harmful to young persons" who can decide if something gets "indexed" or even confiscated.

If a (media) product is classified to not violate any laws (per se), but its content seen to be harmful for minors, it'll get indexed.

An indexed product is not allowed be sold, advertised or portrayed publicly. Adults might still acquire indexed products, but it's only possible "under the counter".

As it's hard to make sure indexed products won't reach minors via mail order (or other indirect services), they often won't be carried at all. That's also the reason why no one can get that Mortal Kombat game via download.

CC's "Eaten...", "Tomb..." and "Hammer..." are indexed over here. CC weren't allowed to play these songs here for years. For a few years now, that has been revoked...

But as these records still have the old covers, their still not allowed to be sold to minors.

"Butchered At Birth" is even confiscated, which means it's not allowed to be sold, portrayed or generally distibuted at all. Products get confiscated if they violate some crucial law (child pornography, sodomy, sedition/racism, Nazi symbolism etc.).

The 'indexed'-status generally lasts for 25 years (if circumstances don't change drastically) after which it gets erased or is being reconsidered.

Those rules apply to ALL media: print, audio, video, games etc.

To avoid being indexed, developers/publishers try to alter their products accordingly to the German regulations: Covers are being altered, Nazi symbolism and explicit gore gets removed etc. They do that because the German market is huge enough to justify the additional expenses.

But more often nowadays, developers will create a "defused" product that'll fit German standards from the get go.

Ironically, some products/artists/developers only reached their popularity over here by gaining the 'indexed'-status.

The "indexed"-status lasts for 25 years, after that it gets erased or is being reconsidered.

What are your computer specs? I run MK1-3 on a modded Xbox (the old one) in my MK Cabinet which has a 733mhz CPU (or something like that ;)). I think you can cover that with you computer? If you like oldschool-gaming in general you should get a modded xbox for emulators and homebrew stuff. You can get it pretty cheap and it's absolutely worth the money. It's awesome to play all these games with 3 dudes in front of the tv. It pretty much covers all the good old consoles in one console (as long as you don't care about having a xbox controller in your hands instead of the original). Love it.
