We all know Cythraul is a good bloke, and I used to respect Cynical's comments until he decided to start being a cunt.

Besides, it's funny when Cythraul pisses people off because they start getting on their high horses immediately. Classic.

When Necro Joe asked Cythraul to explain "ideas" I thought maybe he meant in relation to Hume or Hegel...

Actually, I did not, but I'm sure reading it did me physiological damage.

Well, you could get a point there, but actually I'm pretty sure many people here agree. I could be wrong, but I think that's a fact, not an opinion.

Truth is not established by popular vote. That is *sigh* a fallacy.

On the one hand, there is math/logic, which is not always, but usually accepted a priori. Then there are music, art, literature, etc.: open to interpretation, though possessing objective qualities. The difference is not so stark that the man with no knowledge is qualified to offer "analysis." Why is it so difficult to accept that music is a technical field, which requires expertise to pull apart? I often criticize academia because it is so fixed and unmoving, but to put it simply, you need knowledge to understand shit. I notice the same problem with philosophy. You can take out "Being and Time" from your local library, but unless you have thoroughly introduced yourself to subject and its history or been formally educated in it, you are in no position to comprehend it, much less analyze it. You can listen to music and I wholly encourage you to do so, but if you're like the average person, you cannot hope to establish a coherent, consistently applicable critical template that would allow you to do more than say "I like it because it rocks."

There is no escape from the anti-intellectualism that pervades this and other metal forums, it seems. There is desperation on the part of the herd to keep matters as subjective as possible because the very idea of certainty is terrifying.

^ Very well said. Off-topic: Being and Time is the most difficult book I've ever read, a good read nonetheless.
