Try GARDENIAN.... Imagine NEVERMORE with some Death metal vocals...And you got the closest thing to god.. hehehehe... Maybe not that good, but i'm sure you will like GARDENIAN

Try:
Death - "Symbolic" their most melodic CD.
Haunted - both CD's, the new album is about to release
Sceptic - polish death band, influenced by Death (very good band)
Testament
Paradise Lost

Soilwork-The Chainheart Machine, A Predator's Portrait
Death-Symbolic, The Sound Of Perseverance
Darkane- Rusted Angel (not as melodic as the other swedish bands, check them out anyway)
Testament-The Gathering, First Strike Still Deadly, The Legacy
In Flames-The Jester Race
Dark Tranquility-The Gallery, Damage Done

I like almost all of the bands everyone has listed...but to me the term "melodic metal" is kind of vague. By what I think most people would coin the term, I would say bands like Wolf and Onward are good examples of recent melodic metal (and no, neither are "power metal" by any means).
