Queensryche/Symphony X Tour

Ok, the point is duly noted, but they did play 16 songs off abums through Promised Land, and a decent one off Hear In The Now..., plus the 6 Tribe songs which I have no idea about. I'll take 17 good songs out of a possible 24.

As I've said before, it's easy to play all great songs when you only play 6 or 7.

Like I've posted here before....everything after Empire is ...at best...forgettable.

I would say everything after 'Promised Land' is fogettable. I can't believe Empire isn't on that setlist. BTW, I think the 7 songs from 'Mindcrime', with Pamela Moore, is worth the $45 alone...of course SX opening makes it that much more of a deal. :)

The last time I saw them, on the Dream Theater/QR tour, they delivered. Which surprised me somewhat, being that they're last few albums have seemed to lack fire and passion, they certainly had an intensity live, esp. Tate. I was pleasantly surprised because it had been a quite a few years since I had seen them live and didn't know what to expect. I will definetly go see them live again, but I think I'm done shelling out for less than mediocre studio nonsense...unless they find that same fire in the studio.

wow- People Stop complainig. I Paid 65 (after Ticketmasters we love you Fee) for Loge Row C. Im not all that big into QR, and I love Symphony X more than anything. I also paid 95 for an Ozzfest Ticket, in Hartford CT but I cant go. I gotta sell it. any takers ?

Just saw the show in the Beacon, NYC. Blown away!!!
Phenomenal set!
Oh and gee, that warm-up band kicked butt.... Thanks to the Mikes, Russ and Jason. What a great effing performance!

I totally disagree with the 3 posts above. That Queensryche set was terrible. If SX weren't opening, I could have showed up an hour into QR's set. The first hour of QR literally put me to sleep. Granted, once Pam came out, the show actually began. I don't personally see how that could be a great set when they didn't play Take Hold of the Flame, Revolution Calling, Lady Wore Black, or anything from Rage For Order, The Warning, etc... With that said, the second hour (plus) was great! My point is why bother with the first hour of their set. Hard core QR fans were sitting down in my section (Orchestra Row D), and I can't tell you how many people I heard bitching about their set afterwards. Obviously this is all a matter of opinion, so let's not get hostile with the comebacks.

As for SX; 1/2 hour does not do that great band justice. It's kind of hard for a band that only gets 1/2 hour to blow a band off the stage that plays 2 hours plus. However, what I can say is that SX definitely did blow QR off the stage for at least the first hour of their set.

Speaking on a positive note, Geoff Tate's voice is still phenomenal and he did show alot of emotion which was cool. Just don't wait an hour to start the show next time!!!

I don't see how you can say "I Am I," "Damaged," "NM 156" and "Screaming In Digital" are poor track selections (all of them appeared during the 1st-hour of the set). On top of that, the songs they chose to do off Tribe, and "Sign of the Times" off HITNF are at least the best songs off those albums. They fucking kicked ass, and Symphony X while good, are simply not in the same league yet. I hope they do get there, but not yet.

Agree totally!

First off IMO SX had more energy, more excitement than QR did.

Secondly, Tate wimped out on so many notes it wasnt even funny. I can understand saving the voice but hit some here and there. Christ no wonder why Pam was there, to fill the gaps on the higher vocs.

Was he backing off notes like he do so often on the Live Evolution cd?? If so, then I'm saddened.

Wow, that surprises me to read something like that. Personally, I was in awe at how Moore and Tate sang at the EXACT same octaves. It's not like she even took the higher harmonies - they just double layered the vocals on the higher register. \m/

Best song on the night for me: "Spreading the Disease". Especially at the vocal trade offs.

A bit weird how Sy X is being compared to Queensryche in this thread - who pays $60 to go see an opening band only? Tomorrow morning, I'm asking my boss for a payrise! :loco:

Anyway, with all seriousness, how could anyone *truly* tell what Sy X played like? It's just surprising that nobody's mentioned the atrocious sound quality of Sy X. Being the perfectionists that they are, I'm sure they must have been annoyed at those fluctuating volume levels also. It was all very muddled wasn't it? What a shame. :erk:

Well, Screaming in Digital and NM 156 were pretty cool, however, I personally hate I Am I, Damaged, and anything and everything off of Tribe, Sign of the Times and HITNF. I guess that pretty much says why I was disappointed. They did make up for it for the last hour and 15 minutes which I thought was great.

My point is that very few people, if any, would go see them unless they played their old shit. That is what made them who they are today, and that is what will always carry them through any concert.I can't ever imagine a QR set where they only play 1-2 songs off Mindcrime and 1-2 off Empire and 1 or 2 pre-mindcrime songs with the rest being their new shit. It simply will never happen unless Tate wants to play in front of what SX unfortunately played in front of...
